The Kings are similar to the Hawks in that they are paying the price for going all-in and winning multiple Stanley Cups. It's worth the pain but I will say some of the wounds were self inflicted with some bad contracts and mediocre drafting. For a team that has missed the playoffs a 2 of the last 4 years and won a single playoff game in their last two appearances they don't have a lot to show in quality prospects.

Yup,, hardly news. Unless they have some lottery luck, I think it will be a long haul back to respectability as well. People seem to forget, but before Daryl, they were wandering the desert for a loooong time.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

The guy has lived the dream, twice over.
The cycle back from rock bottom to respectability for most teams is a lot shorter now (well, for teams not based in Edmonton)

One thing that is for sure is that the game has passed the Dion by and he is clearly no longer an NHL calibre player.

but might still be top pairing on the Oilers

More success in the last 10 years that this franchise has seen in its exsistance. I’d take a decline they are seeing now for cups all day

Starting in a few years, there will be 32 teams. All with a cap, and (based on how we’ve seen it playing out) all competitive.
You are going to swing to the other side of the spectrum after winning a cup, not to mention multiple. Having the chance to compete for multiple cups in a 5 year window is going to result in a downturn. And I’d take that every day of the week.
The kings aren’t “doomed”. They won already. This is what happens. Totally worth it.

Maybe not, as they have little youth to build on and their prospects are nothing to scream about either.
Chicago has aged out to some degree, but have two older players till playing at an elite level, and a number of young players doing just fine. They've been bad based on horrible d-men and Crawford not staying healthy. They do have a number of d-men in the pipeline, but they aren't as close as Calgary's are.
I expect they could rebound quicker.

Yeah I don't feel sorry one bit for LA. I'm actually excited because LA, Anaheim and (soon) San Jose will be going through the bottom standings and rebuild process. I've had enough of them being good and tormenting Calgary.

Looking at this season for example and how horrible the last wildcard spot is. For example if Kings end up getting Hughes and nail the picks they have including the leafs first they will be set.
They have majority of their picks this year and next year.

There's a few players who were happy to get rid of that Tyrant Sutter and play a loosey style who likely appreciate those playoff appearances and deep runs now.

Hiring Willie D was clearly a tanking move. Should be investigated IMO
