makes sense that it's the Lightning who are taking Myers. Wouldn't be surprised if he was bought out.
Quote:
Philippe Myers is a fascinating buyout candidate. Because of the structure of the Predators defender’s backloaded three-year second contract and because Myers is still 25 and subject to the 1/3 buyout ratio, there’s actually a $613,000 cap benefit to exercising a buyout on the final year of his deal.
The overall cap benefit of a Myers buyout is neutral, since the $613,000 cap credit for the 2022-23 campaign is offset by a $633,000 buyout cap hit for the 2023-24 season.
However, there’s a world where a deeply focused win-now team might even consider trading for Myers ahead of July 12 for the purpose of buying out his contract and netting some additional cap flexibility for this upcoming season.

Nashville makes a move to show Forsberg they are serious about winning.
…wonder if that’s something Gaudreau is waiting on the Flames to do? That rumour from earlier in the summer seemed to say that Gaudreau wanted another puck carrier/threat on the team.

Interesting. TBL is definitely set to push all-in again this season; the following year they have to pay the piper for the bridge deals to Sergachev/Cirelli/Cernak (and Killorn UFA). That extra 600k then probably won't be the difference between keeping them all or not.
Presuming they do the buyout they'll have 6.5M to get a 3rd pair LHD and two forwards. Which should mean they can keep Palat...I wonder if they give him tons of term to keep the AAV way down.

The Myers contract is unique as a buyout also results in a 1 year hit of -600k then 1 year of +300k. So Tampa is likely going to buy him out right away. Good candidate to sign here to fill one of those bottom pairing heavy roles for cheap imo.

They are $1M from compliance, with only a 7th D and 13th forward to sign from somewhere. Once the season starts, they can LTIR Seabrook. I'm guessing that Palat is a handshake agreement once that happens, and maybe Ruuta, too.
So, they trade, or send down Corey Perry, and right now they are compliant.

Myers will probably become a 40+ point D man on the cheap for TB. It's the way these things work.

I think it was -613k and +633k (or vice versa)

Has it ever been confirmed that LTIRetirement guys are actually an issue for compliance?
