I think Malkin signs with the Rangers, unless the Rangers can work out a deal with the Jets that makes sense for one of Sheifele or Dubois instead.
Can they afford him?

Malkin to Van feels like Brad Richards to CGY. Former GM thinks he can sign him. I guess Van also has that KHL stud they just signed and Podkolzin

Without doing anything else, maybe not... but lots of time to get cap compliant.

Yeah there's a reason why teams are moving picks so much.

If the #2 pick is available, you still do what it takes to get it. Wright or Slafkovsky or even Cooley w9uod be worth it

Two years of covid hurt young players far more than it hurt the NHL. Lots of good young talent had major delays in their development. Not disagreeing its a "meh" draft however I wonder if 4-5 years from now it doesn't produce more late bloomers than other years.

Exactly how i see it too.

Maybe not big on high end talent....but im betting its actually pretty productive overall. Deep on good players but short on great players.

In fact, I didn't make an argument either way.

I just noted that rebuilding a powerhouse team takes more than just sucking. You need to get lucky too.

Yeah it wasn't really a strawman and my comment wasn't even directed at you specifically, was skimming the thread and saw the luck argument made. But either way it's more a "non sequitur" that people keep using. You could have the worst luck in the world and still tanking looks like the only way to build a contender or at least gives you the highest odds.

Anyway wasn't making an argument against you and worded it poorly on top of it.

Let the wheeling and dealing begin! Chychrun would be a good get by the Jackets. Still very young and on a good contract with term.

I feel like Chychrun isn’t a good fit in Columbus with Werenski there. They should be going for a forward.

A marginal return for a marginal player? Shocking!

I'd take Poolparty on the Flames. It's easy to Oiler bash but he's the 2nd coming of Val Nichushkin IMO (Long development curve aided by dumb developers). With a better scoring punch if given the opportunity.

EDIT: Speaking of Big Nich, Flames should sign him if he hits the market.

Maybe true, but all I can picture is that picture of him eating pizza in the background & him with his tongue up his nose half that time.

Flames don’t have the draft capital this year to obtain him. Not saying he is going to fetch a great return but flames have very limited picks this year.
