I hate that this thread continues to be pinned to the top of the first page and we aren’t even talking about the trade that happened 5 months ago

Either way, the Flames draft pick choices are a whole other thread.
They traded away the pick and that pick is now making a difference in the NHL at an incredibly young age.

LOL - you have no evidence of that at all. And unless Schneider was on the list, your point is still wrong no matter who was on the list.

I'm thinking this has become more about showing his friends how many people he has in a tizzy on the interwebs than actually proving a point.

The subject of the discussion is you whining that the Flames are hurting their future by trading away their first rounders "regularly" when really you should be saying they aren't picking the right players in your opinion and it's hurting their future. Moving down in the first round is not trading away your first rounder. You're still getting the guy you want. Not getting to pick at all is.
I don't doubt that there were players the Flames would have picked over Zary had they dropped to 19. But when the 19th pick came up he was the player they decided they wanted. Even if there were "2 or 3 guys" they had at the top of their list he was who they decided on. The five teams after that weren't going to pick him but obviously the players that were picked were wanted by multiple teams so the Flames dealt away the pick. There came a point where there were no more deals to make before Zary would have been picked so they picked him at 24.
Trying to spin it around that he wasn't the guy they wanted but they were willing to let other teams pick the player they wanted and settle on him just to get an extra pick is grasping at straws.

Which all goes back to the point that the Flames do not regularly trade away picks. Trying to include a trade down which actually added picks is more than a stretch, it’s gaslighting.
And more to the point, getting a guy who makes under $5M and scores at a decent middle six clip, while playing a good 200 foot game, when you are ranked as a contender and the 2 seed in the west is not a dumb move. And more so when the pick traded statistically doesn’t get you a better player long or short term.

He’s actually a wonderfully engaging troll. There’s been some pretty good discussion.

Connor Zary is one heck of a player. This discourse on him is making my head hurt.
Thankfully, you'll all get a chance to watch him a lot more this coming year.

Because Calgary would have drafted Lambert, like Montreal did?

Yeah he struck me as a tired player in his own head down the stretch.
Rentals rarely pan out cause there isn't time to acclimate. He showed what he can do early on riding the high of the trade to a team in contention but then fell off. Good thing we have 2 more years for him to properly settle in and play his game again.
