Probably not, though he will be a very good one. But most if not every NHL GM
would take Seth Jones over Morgan Reilly.

The funny thing is, you're going on and on about Seth Jones when in fact Roman Josi is looking better than Jones. You just don't know it because he wasn't the sexy top 5 pick.
Forget about Rielly, Seth Jones will never be as good a Roman Josi.

From separate drafts, where the #4 pick two years ago was widely regarded as a good bet to be #1 overall. In a draft year which at the time was being called perhaps the deepest pool of high end talent since 2003.
Are you seriously making this comparison? Reilly is a really good player from a fairly underwhelming draft year, but Seth Jones could still be the best player from the same draft that included Nathan MacKinnon, Jonathan Drouin, Sean Monahan, and Valeri Nichushkin.

Just because Josi is 24 doesn't mean Jones will be better at 24. Luke Schenn was 5h overall was a strong draft.
'
And Rielly if not for his injury would have gone top 3 in his draft.
Tyler Myers looked great at 20 and then flatlined.

Jones is a #3 d man right now. I don't know his age off hand but have to think he is no more than 21. If you don't think he can improve to be a first pairing dman in the next 8-10 years , then I don't know what to tell you.
Sorry BiG Tuna , love your passion for your hockey club but I got to agree with the rest. Most GM's, if not all, would take the young D-man with first pairing abilities over a first line winger.

The odds actually work very well in his favour. The point here is that it would be a mistake to draw comparisons between Jones and Josi at present and then conclude from these their potential.

He was also the fourth defensman drafted. Seth Jones was a legitimate candidate to be the top pick in the best draft since 2003.

And Drew Doughty looked great at 20 and looks even better now. So what?
At the end of the day, I would take my chances with Jones being a better player in the long run than Reilly, than Josi, than Kessel, and most certainly better than L. Schenn and Myers.
