I doubt it. IMO a mediocre player with a good shot that collected a lot of points playing alongside on of the best centers in the game. The Islanders were never overly interested in bringing him back as they know him better than anyone and outside of the points he's not a great player. I don't think the Ladd deal is great because he's already lost a step but in the next couple of seasons he will bring more to the table than Okposo ever could.

Man, ever since the NHL implemented max term, it's been acting as a magnet. Outside the odd 10+ year terms for the elite or Islanders, five used to be considered long term

Bump.

Interestingly enough I just found out I've been working with Andrew's dad for the last 3 months. Super nice guy. Just one of the guys in the lunchroom, never would've known if I hadn't figured it out through general chat. The 'son plays pro hockey' and 'yes, he' s won 2 cups with Chicago and played for the Jets and Thrashers' answers kinda gave it away.

Wants to retire on his own dime. Says his son earned everything he's made, and it's his son's to keep.

Went into stories of Jr. days, how he had broken a few bones and was set back a bit in development and had to catch up. Was good enough that he didn't need to be put into a Winter Club to 'make it'. He played Jr. B, not A, and was still drafted 4th overall by Carolina in the 2004 draft.

It's always interesting to hear the real life side of a higher profile player.

Ladd's a player I've always wanted the Flames to acquire, although not on that contract. He's a really good hockey player, just so sneaky good at a lot of things.

Coquitlam Express is a Junior A team. And, of course he was on the Hitmen when he was drafted.

Blows me away that Ladd went 4th in 2004 and Getlaf went 19th the year before. I remember arguing with my dad that Ladd would be better because he had the drive to succeed and Getzlaf was talented but didn't care enough.

My dad countered that Getzlaf was just bored playing against kids, as he was far more skilled than him. Looking at it now I can see he was right, although Ladd has had a pretty decent career himself.

$5.5x7 for a 32-year-old who's in full decline?

Easy to see why the Maple Leafs let Lamourello go.

Lou Lamoriello didn't sign this player.

This contract was signed like 2 or 3 years ago now, just got bumped.

It's news to me that they fired him. According to both the team and Lamoriello himself, the plan was always that he would be GM for three years and then move into an advisory role. His contract was structured to give him an out at that time, and it was then that the Islanders came and offered him a job with total control over hockey operations. It's easy to see why he preferred that over a merely advisory position.

I watched a lot of Hitmen games during the lockout. It was easy to see that Getzlaf was the much better player.

I agree completely. Don't get me wrong, I always knew Getzlaf was the more talented of the two, at the time I just questioned his drive, he wasn't always on his A game with the Hitmen, and lazy players tend to fizzle out in the NHL.

This is why I favored Ladd back then, too. Had a motor that wouldn't quit.

Shame injuries have slowed him down.

Don't forget the Lucic contract, Lou's really lost it.

The even dumber part is that I was wondering why Eriksson signing didn't get its own thread. But didn't pursue it further.

All in good fun.
On the positive side, your assessment of the deal was apt, as the GM that made it has indeed been axed.

What did your dad think of Brendl?
