Icon46 Canucks sign Horvat (6 yrs, $5.5 mil AAV)

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Multiple reports out of VAN suggest Bo Horvat contract is imminent if not done. In any case, expect 6 year term, AAV in mid $5M range.

So Botchford reported that the bridge deal was a done deal... are these "insiders" just guessing or what?

This seems a bit much for Horvat but that's just me, he may be worth it but the whole nucks team just seems not important.

Mckenzie rarely, if ever, "guesses".

If this is closer to $5M, think it's a good signing.

No, I was referring to Botchford who originally said that it was a bridge deal. Bob McKenzie seems to be the only real insider who has ties with every team.

That seems about right. It is difficult to know what sort of player Horvat is.

Good deal. Horvat still has upside in my opinion.

Where did Botchford report it was a done deal?

He said he heard that it was a bridge deal but hadn't confirmed it yet.

He shouldn't have gone public with the bridge deal before doing some fact checking but saying he said it was a done deal is false. Unless I totally missed something.

It's a good deal when he plays for Vancouver. However, while he's good, I'm not so sure he's as high on the depth chart on other teams and therefore maybe not making that kind of dough.

Steal. I don't think Draisaitl or Monahan are better players than Horvat

Sounds about right. Something in the $6Ms sounded like too much to me, and if players can't get into the $6s, they often opt for the bridge deal.

But something in the $5s makes sense for both sides. He will still only be 28 when it expires - plenty of time for another big contract. And he would pocket some $30-odd million in the meantime. Worth getting out of bed in the morning, I would think.

Also, <Don Cherry voice> good London boy, I tell ya!

Botchford: I haven't had a chance to confirm..but I heard Bo Horvat deal is done, and it's a bridge deal

He didn't confirm it but to say "I heard it's a done deal" really doesn't look good. At all.

It's getting to the point that you only really believe something if the team and/or Bob McKenzie report it.

Well, I think you'd be in the minority on that.

But I certainly agree that Draisaitl isn't worth $3M per year more.

Horvat is much more of a play driver than either of the other two and does it while playing with Baertschi/Sutter/Tryamkin types

Tryamkin is a defenseman. Sutter and Horvat never played together.

I like Horvat, but hes not as productive as Monahan or Draisaitl. That said I'd rather have Horvat at his contract than Draisaitl at his...
