I wonder if those complaining about people being in gyms with no masks will be here complaining about an event like this.

Well people might have masks on for Halloween?

Are people planning on handing out candy? Will any kids be out?

I think we'll have candy available to hand out. But we haven't decided if its worth it take the kids out trick or treating, or if we are just better off to give them a box of candy each. Typically our neighborhood has ~40-50% of houses participating, my gut tells me it will be max 10% this year, seems like a lot of effort for very little.

I'd prefer if the government would just ask people to abstain. So there wouldn't be a decision to make, and we could just setup something fun for the kids to do.

First Halloween in the 23 years we have lived in our house that we won't be handing out candy. My wife and I are taking a weekend away for ourselves, daughter is playing hockey and my son won't be home either.

I'm gonna set up a 4" PVC pipe "chute", nice 45 degree angle to get that candy flying down towards the kids.

my wife and i were trying to figure out what to do for candy this year... we don't usually have a lot of kids on a 'good' year (i think the most we're had is around 28). we ended up getting some candy and will be making up small paper bags with candy in each bag (some mini chocolate bars and a mini bag of chips in each paperbag). we'll leave the paperbags on our front step and the kids can each take a bag.

I've had a rough year, so you bet I'll be barricading myself at home wolfing down full-sized chocolate bars.

Just like I've done every Saturday night since the middle of March.

Halloween is my youngest's birthday and trick-or-treating is usually the main event, so we're going to get creative this year. We're gonna send her and her sister on a treasure hunt around the house, where each clue will have some candy included with it, and the prize will be the motherlode of goodies.

We don't get a lot of kids at the door in our corner of the neighborhood to begin with, so we're not planning to hand out candy.

we're handing out candy no matter what. We normally get about 100 kids, but this year I'm going to make bags for 50 kids. I don't know if we'll get near that many.

I just think if kids can go to school they sure as hell can go out to get candy.

My daughter is going to trick or treat, but we already have her mentally ready for very few people giving out candy. At the worst, she'll go for a halloween walk and get a bunch of candy from us.

I'm really struggling with the decision. Given our immune issues, I really don't want to do anything that risks our health. But I also don't want to deny the kids candy. I may setup a chute, I think I can keep a safe distance that way, with some flagging tape blocking the stairs.

That elbow at the bottom means the candy is going to get stuck there and the kids are going to have to fish it out.

It should dump it into some sort of tray at the bottom.

Tray? I was just going to have them put their bag under and drop straight in.

Or it comes shooting out and hits them in the face.

Yeah, but remember kids are weak and stupid. If you just have it drop out at the bottom, a lot of kids are just going to drop it and it will fall on the ground. Then, you'll have kids crawling all over your front walk trying to pick up the candy they dropped and it will be a big hassle.

If you have the candy fall into a tray or basket at the bottom, the kids can just reach in and pull it out and be on their way.
