Yup, could easily be a sales tactic to create false urgency. Most of those seats might already have been allocated to sponsors/partners as I imagine they have fewer suites

Hmmm. I honestly haven't been there in years but once they opened the Dave & Busters it's appeared to be busy.
I'm all for it being empty personally. Glendale can rot

It's always a conspiracy when it involves anything good with the Coyotes huh..
How about, the arena is in a location where fans actually want to drive to and people are excited about it?

It's the first row between the goal lines.
When you subtract the space occupied by the benches and penalty boxes, it's likely about 150 seats in total. If they sold them in a 2:1 ration for full season and half season, that's only about 100 seats (50 pairs) of full season first row seats.
Considering how few ticket packages they're selling, it should be a huge disappointment for them to not be completely sold-out of everything.

My point was really that if those tickets were really that “popular” such that you sold out of the full season package, you wouldn’t be turning people away and selling only the half season package.
But hey these guys probably know their stuff.

So what’s the value of this gambling license anyway? Worth a $1.7 Billion development play?

Casinos are a license to print money, so yes.

It hasn't been a great start for the Coyotes Sports Gambling partner, Sahara Bets (which shares an owner with the Coyotes)...
It launched in January, and here are the State regulator's reports for their first 3 months (it takes a couple of months for them to publish the data, so all they've got is through March now)...
Of the 18 licensed operators in the state, they are the 16th most-popular. While 11 of the operators topped $1 million in wagers in the month of March (and three topped $100 million), SaharaBets was less than $73,000.
March was also the first month where they brought in more money in wagers than they paid out, making a profit of less than $3,500. They lost nearly $7,000 in February and just under $500 in January.
It's still early, so they might turn things around, but it's not looking great right now.

Thanks for this getbak. 18 licensed operators in the state.
Time for people to stop claiming that the Coyotes are just an excuse for this gambling license as it’s clearly not that lucrative an operation. It undoubtedly adds some value to the franchise but not that much obviously.

SaharaBets for sure hasn’t been much of an experience that’s for sure. That said, the team has bigger fish to fry.

(Why is the home opener so late into the season? Glad you asked. It’s because ASU’s arena dressing rooms aren’t NHL-quality, and won’t be until December. That’s why the Coyotes will open the season with six on the road, play four at home—with temporary dressing rooms provided via trailer—then go back on the road for 14 straight. There’s probably not a better indicator of the Coyotes’ desperation than that, but ASU makes very clear that it didn’t build this arena for the ‘Yotes, in a weirdly defensive FAQ that also devotes a not insignificant amount of space to clarifying that it’s getting rent checks up front.)
