Icon40 Jeff Carter (50% salary retained ) to Pens for a cond 3rd & cond 4th

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
now
Could veteran centre Jeff Carter be on his way to PIT? LAK and PIT have had discussions on that and are believed to be working towards making that happen.

LAK players saying their goodbyes to Jeff Carter, who is off to PIT.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
LAK will be retaining salary on Carter and receiving a couple of conditional draft picks from PIT.

@PierreVLeBrun
Some of the details in the draft picks involved in the Jeff Carter deal:
The 3rd round pick can become a 2nd Rd pick if the Penguins reach the Cup final and Carter plays in at least 50 percent of the games.

I thought Carter said he'd retire if they traded him?

Pens might be one of the extreme few teams he may forget that statement for maybe.

That would be weird, I thought I heard that teams did not want to take on term past this year.

Lol. I'll retire if you trade me....unless its to play with Sid, Ovi or Tampa.

I'd say the exact same thing.

So much for going to be a quiet deadline. Carter moved. Rumors about interest in Getzlaf too.

This makes no sense to me unless Carter has agreed to retire after this season. He is signed for next year at a 5.25M cap hit, although his actually salary is very little.

Part of his cap hit will be retained by LA

isa dillman @reallisa
Echoing Rob Rossi, hearing it isn't official yet. Source said 'not done yet.'
Also hearing that the picks are a third and a fourth (with conditions), but things been worked out, as colleague @Real_RobRossi says

$2M real salary next year...same as this year.

Wouldn't be shocked if they traded him back in the off-season.

Not sure if PIT still has enough in the tank to seriously contend but I suppose Sid and Geno aren't getting any younger. It's a cycle that seems to work for them, mortgage the future until your superstars retire, bottom out, draft generational players, rinse repeat.
