Default Anyone been to La Jolla (San Diego)

We're visiting in September - it's a cool part of San Diego.

If anyone has been, looking for tips/suggestions.

Thanks

been there - Wind and Sea Beach is heavily localized. Don't surf there if you do not know what you are doing. Check out the Scripps Pier!

There is excellent diving and snorkeling, if that's of interest.

Craft beer - Karl Strauss Brewery is in La Jolla, and many great breweries are in the area (Stone, AleSmith, Green Flash, Ballast Point, Port Brewing, Lost Abbey, Alpine, ...). There are companies that will take you on beer tours to a number of breweries (cheaper than cabs or DUIs). San Diego is famous for IPAs and Belgian-style beers. I did a tour of the Stone Brewery in February - awesome food, even more awesome beer.

I stay at the empress hotel in La Jolla. I would recommend it.

great beach just north of there, did sea kayaking, boogie boarding, etc there. lots and lots of restaurants all around so that is not a problem. balboa park is cool as well as the Zoo. I highly recommend driving to the san Diego wildlife reserve, pay the extra for the tour in the back of the truck (this is a must) and you get to feed Giraffes and Rhinos and see the animals up close. The tour is about $200 but really worth it, the wildlife reserve wouldn't have been worth the drive without that tour. The san diego zoo itself is really cool too.

the SD Zoo is pretty good, but if you go to the zoo here in calgary on a somewhat regular basis, then you may want to pass or move it down on your priorith list of things to see.

I've been here before a few years ago. We ate at this restaurant called Georges. They had really good hamburgers, and the view from the patio is amazing.

It's a more upscale area of SD. I've just been to the Aquarium and the beach.

Things to do in La Jolla:
-La Jolla Cove
-Sunny Jim Cave. You can access the caves through the store
-Children' pool Beach: view seals along the beach.
Great walking and viewing area

-La Jolla Shores - great beach. Good body boarding area. Watch out for sting rays. Surfing also but watch out for Scripps Pier.
-Torrey Pines golf course.
-Mount soledad
-Down town La Jolla - Great restaurants along Prospect St and Pearl St.
