Did the IOC provide accurate cost estimates on the 10 day Olympics a decade ago? This would be 5 or so 90 minutes games in a single location in the city. Also, in the best suited stadium, one that was revamped for major world class events. Outside of the Olympics this is about as big and event as you can get.
It's bigger than the Olympics.

Anything other than rumors about where the Jan 30 match will be played?

Nothing confirmed, but James Sherman yesterday was saying that Toronto or Hamilton look much more likely. It’s that extra 5 hours for players coming from Europe that are going to be the deciding factor against Vancouver.

Excellent. I'll take a 0-0 result in that one any day.

Its only silly because the States shouldn't need conditions to beat Honduras.
There is some credibility to Canada playing in cold and potentially crap weather, scheduling it a team they'd be (at the start) expected to competing with for the 3rd of 4th spot in CRC, and a top table team in Mex.

Of course, the subpar conditions in Edmonton didn't do Canada as many favours on the pitch as the CSA probably hoped, as Canada is much more skilled then previous campaigns.

And Hamilton gets the game likely for the favours Bob Young does for the CSA and CPL.

I think it's totally silly and disadvantages the US who should decisively them at home in perfect conditions. It sends an interesting signal to the US players about the confidence in their ability to do the job.

Canada got a goal off of keepers dropping balls in both games, and won each by one goal.

Lame. Such a crappy stadium to hold this in. No clue why Canadian soccer bends over for Hamilton so much.

I understand all of the reasons why this couldn't be in Vancouver, but it sure would've been nice to have this is Vancouver.

I selfishly would have preferred Vancouver as well but I get it… wasn’t gonna do it but I just pulled the trigger on flights and hotel.

Yep, flights are definitely really reasonable at this time

What is wrong with Hamilton's stadium? Its not grass, but its new and a lot nicer looking than Edmonton's at least on YouTube highlights.

Nothing super terrible, IMO, besides being really small for a really big game. I had actually assumed that there would be extra seating in place for the Grey Cup and the Heritage Classic, with the soccer game being in the middle of those and that would've made a bit more sense.

I have since learned that the Grey Cup won't have extra seats, so the capacity remains mere 23k or so. Maybe I am overestimating attendance for an outdoor soccer game in January, but 23k seems really low for a game of this magnitude.

Maybe the plan is for the NHL to add seats for the Heritage Classic, but if not, that's a shame because Vancouver would've easily had 50k. And there could've been an argument for SkyDome or Olympic Stadium as well if staying in the East was a prerequisite. But, of course, each of those have their issues.

Regardless, I'm happy for Hamilton. They've got a good few months of sportsing coming up with the CanPL finals, Grey Cup, Canada vs. USA, and the Heritage Classic. Bob Young's fingers are in all of these pies, which is no doubt another factor for Hamilton's moment in the spotlight.

Considering I live just outside of Hamilton ... this will do nicely.

This will do nicely, indeed.

Dang our large country. Most people just hop on a train or drive a couple hours to watch their national team.

Vancouver would have been awesome and certainly woulda had 50k in the climate controlled arena.

FIFA just did the draw for the intercontinental playoff for the 2022 World Cup. 4th place team in CONCACAF drew the winner of the OFC, which is most likely New Zealand.

....WE'RE GOING TO QATAR!
