Looks like Xander has just shot himself out of contention.

Xander plays himself out in short order. That'll be -4 when all is said and done. Suddenly it's looking like a two horse race.

Rahm needs to get to -7 and hope for a storm.

On a positive note, either Hideki (first Japanese winner) or Will Zalatoris would be fun winners. Keep in mind we're just a few years removed from investing four days in watching this tournament only to see Paul "call the police, my parents are trying to watch me golf" Reed winning.

I'd like to see what happened to Conners to get a double bogey on 7

I put some money on Zalatoris so hoping he can pull it off!

Wow did Conners implode. Would be nice to see him put the train back on the rails, and finish top 12, so he gets the auto spot for next year.
Makes me that much more appreciative of Weir in 2003. To watch a Canadian battle and persevere on the world stage. What a memorable Sunday.

Hideki now 5 clear of 2nd place heading to the back.
Going to take a huge collapse for this to be even remotely interesting now.

The leaderboard chasing Weir that day was insane. Maggert led Weir by 2, and Weir led some guys named Singh and Toms by 1 and some other guys named Woods Mickelson, and Olazabal by 2. Len Mattice shot 65 to get into the playoff.

Don't think anyone's catching Matsuyama. 5 shot lead with 8 to go.

Yeah, that's unfortunate. There were early signs of a memorable finish, but now it's basically academic to the end. At least there's an historic winner at the end of the day, I'll probably flip back when he hits 18 for that reason.

Yeah, if it's going to be a laugher at least it's not some dooshbag or some guy who's already won a major or a handful of majors.

There is always talk about making Augusta more challenging and I'm wondering how much more difficult the course would play with longer rough and more rough around the greens. There are a lot of drives that roll through the fairways but it doesn't seem that penalizing as the lie is usually very good. I'd rather see an extra 1/2 inch to inch of rough over concrete greens.

Hideki bogeys 12 and then hits his tee shot into the trees on 13, but got a lucky bounce back out into the 2nd cut with a good lie and a clear shot to the green. Then he almost blows the approach to the left but gets a lucky bounce there too just missing the azaleas. Then he puts it about a foot away for birdie.
Meanwhile Xander put it about ten feet for eagle.
Could have been a massive turn around there.

I am shocked that Xander has clawed his way back. If he didn't start so poorly this would be a much different finish. There is still a chance that Hideki gives back a stroke or two.

Hideki in the water on 15. This could be huge. Not an easy shot from behind the green depending on where he has to drop from.

Played it safe and now has a fairly easy up and down for bogey.
Xander almost drains it from the bunker for eagle. Tap in birdie though.
Should be a two shot lead after this hole.
