Watched John Wick 3 and while the action scenes were well done there was way too much of it and I got sick of it about 75% of the way through the movie. It would have been much better with more story to go with it. The first two movies were better. 7/10

Yeah John Wick 3 did drag a bit, especially that side trip to the dessert. Could have probably been 20 minutes shorter. Still I’d rank it at least as good as the first and an improvement over the 2nd in terms of enjoyment.

^I agree with all your assessments FireGilbert, especially Dark Phoenix. If I could tell people to skip one movie that they might feel inclined to watch, it would be that one. So, so bad. Lots of actors phoning in their performances as well.

Just watched, and thought I, Tonya was a good movie. Allison Janney is especially good as Tonya Harding's mom, and won the Oscar for best supporting actress. The movie teases you a few times that what you are seeing is not necessarily true - that the narrators are unreliable. Margot Robbie actually trained for 4 months to learn to skate, so I think some of the scenes are actually her skating. Good music selections with lots of 70s classic rock.

Fact Checking I, Tonya:

“I, Tonya”, reminded me a lot of a Cohen Brothers film.

Oh yeah, I didn't even get to the bad acting in Dark Phoenix. Quality actors like Lawrence, Chastain, McAvoy and Hoult all phoning it in has to be some kind of record. McAvoy was especially disappointing. Compare this performance with Split and it doesn't even seem like the same actor.

I will credit Sophie Turner for at least trying to lead this mess but she was let down by the poorly written dialog. Also Fassbender was brilliant as usual with a couple of his scenes being the best in the movie. Unfortunately he was barely on screen.

I'm surprised so many of you would even inclined to watch Dark Phoenix. It was universally panned and sitting at 23% on rotten tomatoes. Watching this film and being disappointed after is kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I didn't see it in theatres which is odd because I really enjoy a lot of this franchise and was a fan of this "timelines" cast. I guess Apocalypse really did sour me that much.

However I don't really recall actively hating the movies. Apocalypse is forgettable. The dialogue in Dark Phoenix is absolutely atrocious. But they both have their decent moments (mostly centered on Fassbender/McAvoy).

I usually go into all comic movies expecting to see a cartoon, and being pleasantly surprised when it's something more, like Logan or DOFP. Some of the other ones, they're cartoons. But I like cartoons.

Logan and DOFP were well received by critics and audiences so I don't think anyone should be surprised they were good. I get it that sometimes the critics get it wrong (TLJ for example) but this one had a Fantastic 4 stink to it from all accounts so when I see people here it was bad they are describing it exactly how I expected it to be.

I pulled the trigger for Stitcher Premium (at least for the one month trial) so I can listen to archived episodes of How Did This Get Made? #199 A Night In Heaven is amazing.

They cover not knowing who is the main character, seeing a dude’s dick during one of the sex scenes, and kid businessman.

You can get a year for $20.99 using the code SUMMER20. The sale ends today.

If you stick with it use this site to get RSS feeds to import into your podcast app of choice. The Stitcher app kinda sucks.

It’s almost hard to describe how much I liked Parasite. It’s been a while since I was so confused emotionally about “cheering” for the bad guys. Not since the Sopranos and even then, it was quite different.

I'll say this, Parasite is an experience.

It's a little overrated IMO but nevertheless a good introduction for the masses that have been missing out on quality South Korean cinema.

The Greasy Strangler felt like a feature length Tim and Eric skit for reprobates. Weird movie.

I watched it and meh.

It might be a classic case of building up expectations, but while it was alright, it was amazing.

Started to watch Booksmart but bailed about 20 minutes in. I remember seeing some good reviews, but surprised how unfunny it turned out. Maybe I'm the wrong demographic for the movie.

Watched Inheritance, starring Lily Collins and Simon Pegg. The plot is absurd, but the performance by Pegg was fantastic. I've always liked him but he's much a better actor than I thought.

CJSW DJs have curated playlists on Spotify for most, if not all of the movies. See if you can guess which one I did!
