I will tune in for the Strokes next week.
The cold opener was good this week. But also a little awkward. Obviously he has better material but Baldwin just killing it as Trump and you’re literally laughing at every word, and Carrey’s Biden is just crickets.
He said mullarkey, get it?

I did like Trump addicts for America. “My entire personality is hating Donald Trump”. It’s true, some people going to need to find some entirely new things on which to spend their time.

The best Biden impression was Jason Sudeikis. They need to get him back. Carrey is a very funny guy, but his version just doesn't work.

Woody was a good Biden too.
Adele was pretty good, great in the Bachelor and was losing it in the African tourism bit

Adele was good, not especially funny but held her own and it was nice to hear some of her best songs again
She also looked fantastic

Adele and SNL are getting slammed by the usual social media snowflakes on the Africa skit.

I'll take the same comedian every week, especially one as funny as Mulaney, over some random celebrity who's just doing the show to stroke their ego.

Sure, a funny one is better than a not-so-funny one. But it feels that SNL is no longer a desired and cherished appearance for the top talent. When they invite a nothing-much former writer to appear for the fourth time in 3 seasons (!), it points to the obvious. Look at this season line up of hosts and musical guests. That was the top talent across the board. Now?

Mulaney is not a “nothing-much”. He’s one of the top stand ups and his last special won an Emmy. In the last five years he has had his own network sitcom, a successful (hilarious) Broadway show, an Emmy-nominated variety show, and done voices for the very-successful “Big Mouth”.
SNL still draws big names. Three of the people from the season you cherry-picked were on in the past year even. Look at all the people doing cameos. You really think they can’t draw big names? Lorne obviously loves Mulaney and 4 times in a few years is a bit much but they e been funny episodes so I’m not complaining.

Mulaney is among the top in his field, he's not back just as a former writer

Not to mention the talent pool is likely smaller this season as I'm sure lots of top talent just isn't interested in too much travel or commitments right now.

Sudeikis and Woody were great I agree. But it’s not just an impression. It’s about the material and when Baldwin gets all the funny lines, what can you do. It’s kind of a no win and this should be the last head to head with Trump which will help.

I believe they're both working on movies that they committed to pre-lockdown and were delayed over the summer. If they can do a pre-recorded remote segment (like Aidy's bit on WU last week), they will, otherwise, they won't be making regular appearances until they're done.

I wonder if they've asked Dave Chappelle to host the November 7th show. I think he won an Emmy for the one he hosted after the 2016 election.

With movie releases being delayed, there are no big stars to host and promote movies right now. That is where most hosts come from.
