Win is a win, but obviously a very shaky start from the Rockies starter, loading the bases and then a BL walk, then a Varsho bomb in the 1st inning.

Jays then got some defense and excellent from Green and Garcia.

But offense still sputters in long stretches, clearly.

7 scoreless to finish off the game isn't awesome, but definitely lots of positives. Second game in a row with a homer for Varsho, this one great situationally.

Green and Garcia were great (Garcia struck out 3 straight in the 9th using only 12 pitches) but it was good to see Tim Mayza pitch well also. I suspect Bowden Francis will be going down when Romano/Swanson are ready. Great to see Rodriguez look so sharp, they've got him for many years so if he ends up a cost controlled quality starter that's a big win.

Today's win puts them 7-0 with Davis Schneider starting (and still 1-7 without him), he was 1 for 2 with two walks (including a timely one with bases loaded in the first) so his OPS goes up to 0.979.

Hard to argue Varhso should sit on a 2 game homer streak, but KK and Kirk both have sub-400 OPS, having them not be starting hitters would help a lot.

All that said, I think today was Schneider's first start against a right-handed pitcher? Tomorrow is a lefty so I'd expect him to start again. Be interesting to see who sits, as that would be 2 in a row for KK but Varsho hit a grand slam today...

Edited to add: probably the biggest issue here is Bo/Vladdy/Springer all with 0.6xx OPS - that just isn't good enough for the 1/2/3 spot on a high spending contender.

Yeah, the top guys have to get it going if this team is going to string any wins together. Been pretty disappointed with all three so far.

A tough start to the season isn't the end of the world, but with a 7-8 record to show after one of the tougher road trips to start the season, I'm not all that concerned. Team can be a lot better for sure, but it's a long season.

Today's game should be a good one! Berrios is starting, Schneider in the lineup again. Unfortunate that Varsho came out though - he's been hot the last couple of games, would be nice to see him keep it rolling. Would be great to win 2 series in a row and get back to 500.

Turner is less of a concern than others. He’s proven he’s a serviceable player over the years. IKF, Varsho, KK, and Kirk are the huge question marks for positions that shouldn’t have to be.
