McKenzie: Flames among the teams most interested in Evander Kane
he said maybe - so FWIW
looks like this rumor is picking up steam with Friedman also mentioning this in his 31 thoughts, although Friedman sounded like he was speculating
https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/video/insider...rlsson~1283029
No question interest in Kane is picking up.
Sabres trying to drive up the price to more than a 1st, prospect, and a conditional pick
Teams most interested: San Jose, St. Louis, Anaheim, and maybe the Calgary Flames

I don’t want the Flames giving up a 1st, especially for a rental. Maybe a player and a prospect. I just don’t see the Flames as a great fit, but who knows.

The fact that Buffalo is asking for a 1st+ concerns me because obviously the Flames aren't going to give up their 2019 1st when we don't have a 2018 1st.
Please do not trade Brodie or Backlund or Bennett for Evander Kane.

Also if you are really hoping not to get Evander Kane, this might be Treliving's attempt to drive up the price for division and conference rivals.

pretty standard stuff. Tre is known for being a very active GM so it would be out of the norm for him to not to be looking at all available options.

I would be ok with this if it came with a contract extension. Don't want to give up more assets, especially for a player who won't be here long term. More risk then reward in that scenario. Kane would make this team better and with an extension I would be all for it. I know lots of people here have a very negative view of Kane but he's proven to be a damn good hockey player who can put the puck in the net. With an extension he would be worth it.
The cost is a tottaly different story. I'm guessing the Flames would be just tying to trade picks and prospects. Something I'm not entirely against but not overly thrilled about. Only worth it with an extension

I have a Feeling Kane will be looking to hit free agency. He most likely wants to head south out of the tundra and scrutiny of a Canadian market. Hopefully BT doesnt add him as a rental.

I think LeBrun was saying 2 weeks ago about how Buffalo would want a good top 4 d with term coming back in return. Kinda fits our MO beyond Gio/Dougie.
Stone for Kane!

Despite our record and controversial coach I do trust the management to do their homework on the player.
No question his on ice talents are top notch, but if he hasn't grown up since Winnipeg I would be wary.
We don't have a ton of non roster assets either, not sure if tbe price would be worth it.

I think Friedman mentioned that buffalo were wanting more than the Ladd and Hanzal trades, which is fair in terms of value, based on market value. However those are two perfect examples of when teams overpay with no success, so I hope we don't go for it.

I don't believe that our 'hole' in the top 6 RW is that big that we need to pay a huge price or risk bringing a character like Kane in. I too believe in management doing their homework, but I also think we have a good thing going on here and it's not worth the price/risk a player like Kane brings.
Kane is going to cash in huge on UFA day. He has no reason to sign here before July 1st unless it's a massive over-payment, and that would be bad.

No thanks. He hit 50 points once in his career and that was 6 years ago. He's having a tremendous contract year on a team that stinks.
I would be really upset if the flames do this unless it's a bunch of crap going the other way (nothing off the roster other than our 4th line guys and b/c level prospects.

Kane character questions are overblown and he's a great hockey player. Big, skilled, tough, rugged. Exactly what BT is trying to build here. He'd be my #1 target if he were a right shot, but even as a LS he's still a great fit. He's everything we want Ferland to be (as a hockey player). I'd put him on the top line to give us a truly elite top line with Gaudreau and Monahan. And then Ferland can slide down to play with Janko & Bennett to give us a terrorizing third line. Hathaway who has shown he's and NHL player slides down to the fourth line to play with Lazar and Brouwer.
