I bet most officials are hoping Henderson wins.
I bet they like the message that you can't assault an official without paying a heavy price.

Breaking: A Calgary judge has dismissed referee Don Henderson’s $10.25M lawsuit against the Calgary Flames and Dennis Wideman, ruling the case should be handled by an NHL arbitrator, @CTVchrisepp reports.

I'm no fancy 'Big City' lawyer, but I could have saved a whole lot of legal fees and predicted this months ago.
I think they should have it ruled over by some referees.
"Well, the guy closest to the play didnt call anything but the ref 100 feet away saw it but he thinks Batman did it."
Solid day of work boys. Solid day.

Henderson didn't get what he wanted, so he calls up his referee buddies and tell them to screw the Flames the last couple of games.
The Wideman Effect is still alive!!

The verdict released to parties a few days back I’m sure, and then this pic was randomly sent to the referees union before Wednesday’s game, from an unverified email address with an Colorado origin:

Every fan base says the refs are out to get them. But its pretty clear that there was a step change in the rate of penalties after the Wideman incident.
Not sure if the latest bad calls are connected, but regardless, there is a drop in the professionalism of the NHL's refs that hopefully is being addressed behind closed doors.

The Wideman effect has been apparent even this season especially the last 10 games.

Someone should make this into a movie. In the style of “Any Given Sunday”, you know an attempt at making a slick production and a glimpse behind the scenes of a major sport. There has been lots of great movies made about other sports, the NHL is overdue. I’d pay to see it.

Kinda OT, but have a look at the funny Kessel/Phaneuf gif below. Tell me if Kessel doesn't look like he's got his eyes on Dion, and tell me if he doesn't get his hands up reflexively just like Wideman (the only difference being Wideman had his stick in two hands so that bringing them up = crosscheck position).

Dion's skating trajectory in that gif looks pretty weird from the limited amount we actually see of it, it wouldn't totally surprise me if Kessel saw him and just assumed he was going to head the other way, not realizing that the play was coming back up ice.

Yeah, I don't see much similarity between these incidents.

Really? I do. But in any event, the key thing is that it counters the "he was looking right at him - of course he intended to hit him" argument. If they were wearing different uniforms, you'd think Kessel intended the hit.

Kessel had a "head in the cloud" moment there. Clearly not paying attention to the play and coasting in a straight line to the bench to which Phaneuf is looking at the play and changes direction up the ice into his path. I fail to see any similarity as Wideman was deliberate with his hit on Henderson who had his back turned. To me it always looked like Wideman intentionally hit him. I'm not clear if he was in a bit of a daze after getting plastered or had a momentary lapse where his anger got the best of him.

Thais is pretty much how I saw the Wideman incident as well.
I don't recall the argument for intention ever having been based on the notion that Wideman was looking directly at Henderson before he hit him. There was a whole lot more involved than just that.
