What makes you say that?

Ortio and Gillies are still better prospects.

I'm not sure how the performance of Ortio and Gillies will change the odds of McDonald being an NHLer or not.

Plus it's too early to start criticizing Ortio or Gillies. In Ortio's case it sounds like his defense is hanging him out to dry a lot of the times.

Mason got the second star tonight in a 5 to 1 victory of Charlottetown over the Baie-Comeau Drakkar, a stronger team. He made 28 saves and kept the Islanders in the game when they were being badly outplayed. They eventually got it going and started to score.

Check the date of the post. They both were struggling at the end of October. Not so much anymore.

At that time, Gillies' record was 1-2-1 with a 3.15 GAA and a 0.882 SV%. Ortio was 3-3-1 with a 4.16 GAA and 0.879 SV%.

McDonald made 53 saves to lead the Islanders to a 4-2 victory over the St. John Sea Dogs tonight in Charlottetown. He got 2nd star but could have easily gotten 1st star. The fans stood and cheered at the end of the game; it's the most excited I've ever seen them.

The Islanders have played the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in back to back games in Charlottetown. They have looked rather gassed in both games as they have been making up games rescheduled due to the string of blizzards we've experienced this winter. The team lost last night but McDonald held them in for much of the game even though he let in one uncharacteristically weak goal. Tonight he made 36 saves to get a 3-1 win and was on top of his game , a good thing given the fact that the home team was outshot badly.

Not that it matters much for a goalie, but the kid looks like he could add a few pounds.

He's still really young. There's no doubt he'll add a few pounds before he ends up in the NHL, so I don't think it's worth worrying about. He looks emaciated in that photo though! Must be something to do with the camera angle...

Everytime I read about this kid it seems like his team is getting worked but he's keeping them in it. For a 19 year old I'll take that for now.

Gotta love the situation from a Flames perspective. His team gets shelled with shots so he's getting a ton of work yet they're also reasonably successful so his confidence isn't getting shattered at the same time. Win-Win.

Mason was taken out of game 3 about 5 minutes in with a knee injury. No time frame yet.
Islanders are up 2-1

He didn't play the last home game of the season, supposedly due to an upper body injury. I wonder if the knee might have been acting up then. Teams get vague/misleading about injuries as playoffs approach.

Major blow to @IslandersHKY. Mason McDonald out for rest of series & perhaps longer with right knee injury. #NHLFlames
