Are you suggesting she she strap a turbo or supercharger to it? Because I think she should. Then she can use premium.

As far as premium fuel goes, it is a waste of money in that car, and especially if she lives in Calgary. That engine is a 4.5L V8 with a 9.5:1 compression ratio.

- First reason, our altitude: air density is lower at these elevations, you aren't getting as big of a 'bang' in the combustion chamber.
- Second, the vast majority of gasoline in Canada (unless you seek out Ultra94 IIRC) is 10% ethanol blended, and ethanol has 25% less energy than pure petrol. Again, less energy in the bang.

Now, if it was a forced induction engine like a turbo? Sure. But that car will run just fine with the regular stuff. It probably just needs a tune-up; plugs and wires, ignition... and a reset of expectations that any 88 Cadillac will provide an exhilarating drive.
Only Shell 91 and Chevron 94 are ethanol free, Ultra94 is 10% Ethanol.

I wouldn't waste any money putting premium in a malaise era Cadillac. Those cars are junk.

It might break 200 horsepower if she did... right before it became the first Cadillac to launch a pushrod into outer space.

My dad's old tow truck had a 454 in it. It was not good on gas, but goddamn could you make it howl putting your foot down. One day driving to Calgary(with something like a hard 400 000km on it) it sent a rod straight through the engine block, left a hole the size of a loonie. My dad said it was very loud.

His name Pano or Panno or something to that effect?

I met a tow truck driver from Canmore once with that name. Nicest guy ever. My truck broke down as I was heading out to Banff to live for the summer. It was a Sunday. Pano picked me up, took me to a parts store, called his buddy to come open the parts store as it was closed for the day, grabbed me the part and took me back to my truck. Nicest guy ever.

No, not Panno. But the guy sounds familiar. We didn't do a ton of towing, to much hassle.

I can’t sell my Audi due to rust, but should still be worth twice what rust remediation would cost. Can anyone suggest a decent body shop for rust repair at a decent price ( commensurate with a sub-$15k car)?

Yeah but there's lots of room in the backseat for parking and making out

What did he do with a tow truck to get it up to 400,000 km if he didn't tow things?

Bought it used from a guy like Panno who had already put 320 000k on it. We mostly used it around town to do boosts, or bring customer cars in that had broken down at home. Or help the occasional stranded tourist high centered on a parking curb. We avoided the highway broken down vehicle situation, because it was so sketchy back then.

The new all electric Hummer. I'd take this over the Cyber Truck any day. looks good, the thing must weigh more than a tank, though, with all those batteries. The wireless battery system looks nice and clean.

Yeah, no thanks.

It's kind of hilarious how small the people look in this thing.

Yeah, no, I'll definitely take the cyber truck. At least that's cool, if not nice to look at.

The cab on the Hummer truck looks massive but the rear seat looks surprisingly small and short on leg room. Also that center console is ridiculously huge.

I'll back you up, Fuzz. The more ridiculous vehicles out there the better. I'd love to see this rolling around Calgary.

Some throwback hummer style headlights could have helped. Ford just nailed this with the Bronco. This thing just looks like a (even more) roided up new Silverado.

I'm not sure it's any more ugly than most of the trucks out there. Lets face it, if you are going to look goofy in a vehicle, the Hummer is a lot less goofy than this:

And at least it's from a company that has built trucks for 100 years. I suspect the Hummer is going to be more capable and better built than the Tesla.
