Just caught the 3rd period sorry and by that point the bench was shortened down. I believe he used all D as just that (limiting Stone's time) and double shifted a forward early but someone else will have to confirm that.

If either dresses tomorrow, Lazar will be sent back before the game.
Emergency recalls don't count against the four recall limit. There's just a pile of rules around when such a recall becomes available, when they can play, and how they can be brought up.
|
What I meant with my question is will Lazar count as two recalls if this wasn't an emergency recall. He was already 1 out of the 4 allowed initially before being sent down.

Steinberg says this is an emergency recall, and so the Flames still have 2 recalls:

Nope...ran Stone into the pairings and 11 forwards with Johnny drawing double duty, mostly.

I'd assume the idea is to spend the last two recalls on Juuso Välimäki and Dillon Dubé.
Then, if a goalie went down, Jon Gillies would be an emergency recall.

The playoffs do not begin for another three weeks. I imagine there will yet be a scenario in which Valimaki is recalled before 10 April.

In my opinion it is to better illustrate the time and space for the defenders.
No diving to poke pucks Czarnik style, you need to be a position where you can touch the puck with the heel of the blade if you want to consider yourself 'in position'.

This makes more sense than turning the stick because at least it feels right in your hand. I wonder what they are using for those stciks though - their usual $200 ones?

Several times I have made my teams over the years practice the pk with bladeless sticks as well to help them learn to position their body in the lanes versus their sticks. I did this when we were giving up to many shots and gap control was an issue.
It’s not just about blocking the shot it’s also about blocking the vision of the puck carrier.

Also, getting the tip of the blade only on the puck doesn't stop the puck - it just causes potential problems for the goalie half the time. Getting the feel on it either stops it or deflects it so much it's not an issue.

It’s an interesting way to practice the PP/PK. I like it.
The thing about turning the sticks upside down for the PKers and using the butt end is that it doesn’t encourage better body positioning. Having no blade means the players have to defend a bit different and it isn’t representative of a real game situation. That’s done purely for the benefit of the PP so they can practice easier.
But cutting the blade in half will reduce PK effectiveness, helping the PP practice, but is close enough to real game conditions that it’ll help the pk too. If you can intercept or deflect passes with half a blade, you’ll have no trouble with a full one.

I'm not sure I agree. To me, that would actually hinder the PP as they would be able to throw passes around in practice that simply would have no chance in a real game situation....probably not a good habit to get into.
As you later say, I think this is entirely aimed at the PK unit and trying to get them to get more of their sticks into shooting lanes, working on positioning and actually obstructing shots/passes as opposed to maybe only tipping them. Interesting nonetheless.

What would give you that idea?
Why bring him up to play D when we have an abundance of D and a shortage of F?

What's logic behind limiting the number of regular call-ups to five after the TDL? Is it to stop teams from trying to bury NHL calibre players in the minors?
