Even if Carolina does not get a first rounder for him I think we long ago dispelled the notion that Fox was a "throw in." I am guessing that Carolina wanted a blue-chip defensive prospect, and the Flames had four to choose from.

They’d be lucky to get anything more than a token return to dispel any allegations of bad faith negotiating on New York’s part. A late 2nd rounder and B or C level prospect, maybe.

Erixon returned two seconds and a prospect. That is arguably better than a late first round pick.

The question is whether Rangers are truly the only team he’ll play for. A second and a decent prospect would t be a disaster either though.
