That would be cool, although I had no idea that the X Games still existed.

This is a huge announcement! I'm not even really into extreme sports in any kind of way but to have such an event here in the dead of winter will be a big tourist draw to the city and bring some life to the city in January!

ALL ABOARD!

It would be a big event for Calgary. Especially if we can get it on a recurring basis.
Time to stock up on Monster Energy Drink and Red Bull.

You're confusing this with the Winter X Games. The X Games take place in July. If it was Winter X, it wouldn't be happening at the Stampede Grounds (they'd have to do some of it at COP and some at Lake Louise, probably, for the ski / boarder cross).

I was under the impressions that this is for the Winter X Games and I still think it is. We will find out soon.

What Winter X events could conceivably be held at the Stampede Grounds?

Combination of the stampede grounds and winsport.
As for what could take place at the grounds? Snowmobile races and flips etc.

Yea I think most events will take place at COP but Stampede grounds could host some of the events plus be a festival ground. I think with this event we can expect to see some concerts and festival events along with the competition sports. This is going to be a fun event to have in the city especially if it is annual! A mini winter Stampede?!

Officials say exclusive Canadian rights have been secured by the city to host X Games for a minimum three year run and the city is hoping to hold events in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
The deal is contingent on securing corporate sponsorship and officials say they are talking with potential partners.

I would think that it should not be to hard to get partners to sign on for this.

That appears to be a mock up of how they might do big air at the stampede grandstand. Is there enough room for the inrun, jump and landing? I'm not sure.

Would be pretty cool to land this for 3 years. Hope they can pull it off. Olympics on a small scale I guess.
