That shootout move from Ruzicka was silky smooth.

I would like to see Ruzika-Phillips given a shot at the NHL level in the last stretch of this forgetful season.

Under the CBA, the 4 recall limit after the trade deadline only applies until the AHL team's season is finished.

I wonder if that means the Flames can make unlimited recalls starting Friday since the Heat's last scheduled game is Thursday, even though the rest of the AHL is still playing for another 2 weeks?

The cap space is tight, but if they put Hanifin on LTIR, it would give them a bunch of room.

Today, the AHL confirmed that the Canadian Division will not be having any playoffs this season, which means that today's game in Winnipeg will be the final game of the Heat's season.

That should mean that the Flames can make unlimited recalls from the Heat after today.

Still checking re: the bolded — might be able to ask Pascall about that tomorrow.

Thanks.

The CBA seems pretty cut and dry on that, but I suppose they could throw a wrench in it because the Flames are the only team whose AHL team is done this soon (the Islanders' affiliate finishes next week, everyone else plays into mid-May).

Although, it doesn't really give the Flames any unfair advantage to be able to play some minor leaguers, so I don't know why anyone would oppose it as long as they remain cap-compliant.

Heat season is over. They lost 2-1 in overtime today, falling to 11-17-2 on the season. 3-15-2 in their final 20 games.

Tuulola with the only goal (shorthanded), from Philp and Ruzicka. Shortridge with 35 saves.

A shame the wheels fell off after a good start. I haven't paid all that close of attention to the Heat this year, was there anything in particular that caused such a death spiral?

They lost Wolf, Zary, Petrovic, Pospisil, and Kirkland in quick succession. They were kind of a decimated, battered club by season's end.

Scorp - maybe this is hard to answer but does this really explain the results relative to other clubs who would also have had players return to junior and/or get recalled?

So Kuznetsov got a few games in?

How did he look? Like a future impact NHLer?

Kuznetsov looked 19.

And — regarding SB's question, I don't think the Heat had the depth of veteran experience to offset those losses.
