Icon35 Isles/Ducks swing a big deal

The Isles wanted to add some asset depth to the organization so we swung a deal with the Anaheim Ducks.

To ANA:

G Mikko Koskinen
LW Nic Deslauriers
D Jonathan Aspirot
2021 5th

To NYI:

C Scott Laughton
D Kris Russell
RW Joey Anderson
G Ryan Miller
2021 3rd
$3.74 million

We needed help at C to offset the loss of Staal. Laughton is a 71 who can play all three positions. We were pretty confident in Francouz for the time being and we're reasonably sure that we'll be able to make up for the loss of Mikko at some point.

Love adding Joey Anderson, big fan of his and we think he'll do great in Toronto. Kris Russell is a solid D in the sim. Miller is fine. The pick is nice to add. The cap is even.

New-look Isles:

Staal* - Stastny - Panik
Nyquist - Laughton - Niederreiter
Lucic - Soderberg - Neal
Bellemare - Dowd - Reaves
Nash

McDonagh - Nemeth
Dumoulin - Oleksiak
Russell - Zaitsev
Jensen

Francouz
Miller

Thanks to Curtis for the deal. Always fun to talk trade. Glad we could hammer something out.

Always liked Laughton, and Curtis gets the goalie that he wanted. Got to love a deal where everyone gets what they want.

Based on the schedule, it looks like we can expect to play on back-to-back nights relatively frequently...and against teams like the Sharks. So I needed another reliable goalie...and Miller was not good for our team. He had no wins in 5 starts and that just won't work.

After our first game, Hart was down to a 97 in CD and based on the schedule. Even the last game he was a 99 CD...and he played OK.

I cast a decently wide net for goalies and nobody was keen to move any right away...but then Scorp needed a top 6 fwd so there ended up being a fit.

I think I overpaid here, and I really like Laughton. But I had a 70 OVR guy on my 4th line, so could afford to move Laughton.

And, at the end of the day Koskinen is an 86 OVR this year, on a good contract, and should get starter ratings next year as well because Mike Smith sucks.

This makes me much more comfortable going into the remainder of the year.

Thanks Scorp for the trade...it was fun albeit a little bit complicated at the end with all the bodies!!
