Lack of intensity? That's a pretty big red flag. Hope the kid figures it out. Maybe a trade will be good for him.

Hopefully that will be enough of a kick in the pants for him. Rucizka seems like he needs that as well. Here's hoping that Joly figures it out wherever he lands, since he does have nice combination of skill, skating ability and even size.

he had a great draft+1 season last year and i thought he was poised to take another step this year. then he was much more anonymous during rookie and training camp than i expected, and seems to have struggled to make an impact this season. hope he picks it up from here on

Joly traded to the Victoriaville tigers

https://www.lanouvelle.net/2018/12/1...ez-les-tigres/

per the article, it is a bit of a surprise because the Tigers are expected to be sellers at this point in the season

Maybe not his final destination. Trade is also not official until the QMJHL trading period opens tomorrow.

Rimouski made some trades today upgrading in G and acquiring a 19 year old C Jeffrey Durocher.

Durocher may get some time with Zavgorodniy

Also likely that the Sting trade Ruzicka. Sting are rebuilding this year and have already sent some veteran players out. The difficulty in trading Ruzicka is finding a team with the import space to fit him on the roster.

Rimouski has now acquired Joly from Victoriaville.

Zavgordniy and Joly are on the same team now and potentially linemates.

Rimouski gave up a 1st round pick in 2020 and a prospect they drafted in the 4th round of the most recent draft.

Looks like Rimouski is trying for a deep playoff run.

good stuff. Maybe even linemates? Or can one of them ride shotgun with Lafreniere?

either way, I hope Joly does well and earns a contract.

Joly scored a goal in his first game with Rimouski. Tied the game with less than 3 minutes left and forced OT. Oceanic lost 2-1 in OT.

Looks like he is being used primarily as a winger in that game.

Am I being overly pessimistic in thinking that all the CHL prospects are long shots at best, especially now that Z has come back down to Earth? I'd be surprised if this lot produced even one Fringe NHLer. Am I wrong here? This is the first season in a while where I'm not actively checking CHL scores because I don't think there is anyone worth keeping an eye on.

Probably fair to have this opinion.

But then again you are talking about a couple of 4th round picks, a 6th round pick, and a 7th round pick. Getting one fringe NHLer out of those 4 is an above average outcome for their draft positions.

You can see why some Flames fans want the Flames to keep their 1st in the 2019 draft. The prospect pool is not very deep right now.

Adam Ruzicka had an assist on the game winning goal for Sudbury in a 4-3 win tonight. Went 15/20 in face off circle.

Ruzicka's new coach loves him. The quotes about effort level and defensive play are very encouraging. Looks like the change of scenery is paying off so far.

https://www.thesudburystar.com/sport...in-with-wolves

Quote:
A minus-10 with a youthful Sarnia sextet, he has a plus-3 rating with the Wolves, despite playing often against other teams’ top lines.

“We’re excited about what Adam can do,” Wolves head coach Cory Stillman said. “He has helped our power play and he has helped control the game. That’s what you get from a 19-year-old centreman.”

It’s not just Ruzicka’s offensive prowess, but also his defensive acumen, that has impressed coaches. Many a dangerous-looking rush has been broken up because the veteran pivot made an extra effort to get back, then used a quick stick to steal the puck.

“I’m not afraid to put him against any line,” Stillman said. “With him and Bully (Shane Bulitka) together and whoever is playing on the right side, we do have two checking lines, with Darian and Drake Pilon and Macauley Carson on one, then you can put Ruzicka and Bulitka together, to play on the road.”
Quote:
Stillman has found Ruzicka to be very coachable.

“He wants to learn every day,” Sudbury’s coach said. “We’re putting him in positions that give him the puck and let him be the difference in a hockey game. He’s not afraid, if he doesn’t know something, to come out and ask us a question.”

Stillman, a longtime former NHLer himself, said such eagerness will serve the youngster well as he pursues a pro deal.

“The Calgary Flames are going to want to see how he competes every night,” Stillman said. “If he continues to trend upwards, which he has been doing here, I think the result will be good for him at the end of the season.”
Yes that is former Calgary Flames player Cory Stillman who is the head coach in Sudbury

As well as Joly! Was traded to Rimouski

Edit: Joly with a first period goal. Nice shot!

First time I’ve seen Joly play, he looks quite big out there.
