^^^Kinda true. It is anything but humble though...

I actually coughed out $20 and bought the book on amazon. Just finishing it up. It is a very interesting read, if you like professional hockey and are curious about what's going on behind the scenes in NHL. There's plenty of juicy details there!

Never hated Avery as a player when he was playing in NHL (unless when he was playing against Calgary, of course). He had a certain job to do, he was well-liked by his teammates and, not to forget, despite his attention seeking and on-ice antics he was not a pylon and actually could play. An amplified Brad Marchand. Overall, a very entertaining player to watch.

Hrudey has no respect for him and hates that his book is on the same shelves as Hrudey's.

I bought the book. It's an interesting read even though he was a loser. He was not your normal personality and he rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. Hall, Chelios, Draper and Shanhan were real tight with him.

One story that stood out for me was when he was in Dallas. He wore a suit with dress shorts cause it was hot and Les Jackson told him he had to go home and change cause he wasn't looking "manly" enough. The entire team waited on the plane for him to go home and change. That's crazy. No wonder no gay player has come out in the NHL.

He also nixed a trade to Calgary in his final season which was interesting.

Seems like a bit of a tool, but the NHL needs more players who have some individuality and personality. I might get the book just to get an insight into the aspects of the NHL that none of the conformist old boys club ever talk about.

I'll be honest, I thought his screen play against Brodeur was brilliant and one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

The fact the league made a new rule the very next day but can't fix correct other more important rules (obstruction, etc) was BS. If a player wants to screen that way and get hit in the back, let them. I'm honestly surprised more players haven't done that.

I surprised one of the d-men didn't just clobber him on that play.

I would imagine if he did it again the very next game, he very likely would have been Bertuzzied. That immediate rule change might have saved his
life.

Hate him all you want, but you can't deny he made the game more interesting off and on the ice (for all the wrong reasons). He is the anti-thesis of Sean Monahan.
