wranglers Official: Heat make Playoffs!

It's official, with the 4-3 win last night over Grand Rapids, the Heat have made the playoffs in their first season in Abbotsford!

... I hope playoff tickets aren't too expensive.

Who will they play in the first round of the playoffs? Will it increase their attendance records? With how well they've been playing without their top players, what happens when their top players come back?

Thoughts?

When do their top players come back? Negrin, Palin, and Pelech in particular - still hoping Backlund won't need to be sent down... I'm sick of seeing other team's prospects help win games for the Heat.

I totally agree, but if I'm not mistaken Olivier Latendresse is Heat property, not any other NHL team property.

Negrin and Pelech are most likely out for the rest of the season.

Palin was back tonight. I was listening to the game on the radio and Dave Sheldon was saying that he was "noticeable" on the ice because he was laying out "huge hits at crucial times".

Nice weekend. Shantz playing extremely well which should give him a good shot at Calgary's bench next year. Would like to know Darryl's thoughts on Irving's development which seems to have gone backwards in his 2nd year as a pro. Hope this is not another 1st round pick that fades into the sunset.

Pelech has a pinched nerve in his shoulder.

Negrin broke his wrist.

And both are that bad to finish them for the season? The wrist I get, but the pinched nerve? Is it career threatening?

I guess he is having problems with feeling in his arm. Probably requires surgery.

Negrins wrist was broken I think about 6 weeks ago, and I am pretty sure he is listed on the playoff roster that management had to submit. So they might be expecting him back sooner than later.

I am excited for Brodie to see some AHL time, I think he is probably the best defense prospect we have. But it is highly unlikely that the Colts are out before the Heat get eliminated (Barring some miracle AHL playoff run).

Not to mention some players that were considered prospects not too long ago - Latendresse for the Canadiens, Lammers for the Stars, Spurgeon for the Oilers.

Nope, you are thinking of Guillame Latendresse. Guillame is playing for the wild, he got traded for Pouliot earlier this season. Olivier is his much smaller, crappier brother. I don't think he was ever drafted.

Spurgeon and Lammers are on PTOs. And Lammers is now hurt.

A pinched nerve, from what I remember, means that it is a lot harder to do anything requiring percision. A girl in my Anatomy class pinched an upper body nerve, and she was unable to stop her hand from shaking. They do recover most of the time IIRC.

That should be a good boost to the fans/ticket sales making the playoffs in their first season

If you look at Olivier Latendresse's picture on the Heat website, it looks as though he was a Montreal prospect at one time (judging by the jersey he's wearing).

But Olivier really isn't that bad. In fact, he's playing far better than some of the Heat's best players.

i don't want to say its a trend, but its funny you say that, as last year, late in the season, several players had to be brought in to cover for injuries and callups. and they ended up playing better then most of the regulars, and almost pushed to a playoff spot. perhaps its just that many of the players in those positions realize they are fighting for their hockey future and that motivates them, but i just found it funny as we had a very similar experience last year.

I dunno, I looked him up when he got brought on, it doesn't say he was drafted anywhere.

Olivier was never drafted, but the Canadiens got him from the Coyotes in 2008 - a trade for Cory Urquhart.

It's not a 100% guarantee yet but it's pretty darn close that Abbotsford's first round opponent will be Rochester.

I've always thought that the Heat had loaned players from the Lightning and not the Ducks. hhmmm...
