The Oilers and the Sabres have made two big trades but I'll just put them together as one bigger trade. In total:
Sabres acquire
Nate Schmidt
Erik Haula
Jack Studnicka
Oilers acquire
Sam Girard
Tyler Bertuzzi
Gustav Olofsson
Ryan Lindgren
2020 1st
2019 2nd (NYR)
We've been struggling this season and hope that some changes either make us better somehow or just help us retool for next season. Really didn't want to move Schmidt but was open to that in the right deal (#notfakenews) as he's still having a good season and has a great rating. Haula was someone I wanted to move as he's been mediocre and injured irl. Studnicka stings to lose but Buffalo really wanted him and I gave him up in order to get a 1st. Girard is someone I think will really develop into a great player and is already a solid top 4 guy. Bertuzzi is developing into a good 2nd liner on the Wings. Olofsson is an okay young dman who can fill a role for this season. Lindgren is a good B prospect with the Rangers farm. I am happy to acquire a 1st and a early-mid 2nd as well.
Thanks to Sportsjunky for the deal

Buffalo got tired of losing games and their GM got busy over the holidays. Haula is the 2nd C that I needed. Schmidt is a guy I’ve always liked. He instantly becomes a top pairing guy on the Sabres. Studnicka is a guy I’ve been trying to get from the Oilers GM for a while.
Letting Bertuzzi and Girard go is not something I planned on. I wanted to add them to my core over the next couple of seasons but this season was getting too painful to sit through. I’m here to have fun and try to win. Hopefully the team can string some wins together now.
Thanks to savardandjokinen for hanging in there with me on these deals. Always fun to negotiate with him.
