It's time for CMNT to get results. I don't want to hear any complaining or excuse making if they can't get the job done. This is a lucky 2nd chance that came about due to a global pandemic. Take advantage of a golden opportunity, for once.

Article by Alphonso Davies on the Players Tribune - Moving Past the Doubt
Quote:
You might have read some stuff about me sometime in the last few years.
Like when I was 15: Davies becomes second-youngest player to play in MLS.
Or when I was 17: Davies makes record-breaking transfer to Bayern Munich.
I guess it must have looked like I was always going to make it.
But that’s not how it was. Or at least that’s not how it felt.

Great move for David! Was selfishly hoping he would go to a Bundesliga side as I watch that a lot more, but this will be amazing for his development.

the draw is set for Wednesday.

Based on the most recent FIFA World Ranking (as of July 16), the 30 lowest-ranked Concacaf teams will be split into six groups of five to contest the first round of qualifying. The pots for the first-round draw are as follows:
- Pot 1: El Salvador, Canada, Curaçao, Panama, Haiti, Trinidad and Tobago
- Pot 2: Antigua and Barbuda, Guatemala, St Kitts and Nevis, Suriname, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic
- Pot 3: Grenada, Barbados, Guyana, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Bermuda, Belize
- Pot 4: St Lucia, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Montserrat, Dominica, Cayman Islands
- Pot 5: Bahamas, Aruba, Turks and Caicos Islands, US Virgin Islands, British Virgin Islands, Anguilla
The six highest-ranked teams in the first round – El Salvador, Canada, Curaçao, Panama, Haiti, and Trinidad and Tobago – will be pre-seeded into groups A to F respectively. Each team in the first round will play four matches, two home and two away.
In the second round, the six group winners will face off in a home-and-away elimination format in three predetermined pairings. The three winners move on to the final round and join the five highest-ranked Concacaf teams — Mexico, the United States, Costa Rica, Jamaica and Honduras — to play in a home-and-away round-robin format.

You guys think we gonna be rolling with Davies at Left back? I’m on the fence with that, I think Canada needs him and David to develop chemistry, we can beat up on smaller teams with them At the front and then experiment with Davies vs better teams at Left back as that is a big weakness of ours and would help stem the counter attacks of faster teams like Mexico and Costa Rica.

Canada are in a group with Bermuda, Suriname, Aruba and the Cayman Islands.
Should win that group with ease.

For a clear look at the groups, match windows, etc., the Wikipedia article is surprisingly good: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_F...tion_(CONCACAF)
The first round will be played in early-mid October and early-mid November.

I know it's covered a bit in the other thread, but this is definitely something to be proud of. Bring on the Lou Marsh.

Can't remember a time when we had this many options at RB. Brault-Guillard is a pretty good option as a backup, and Kadin Chung was unreal at the Island Games this year. There's Godinho too for the games against minnows.

Schedule for World Cup qualifying has been updated. Format is still the same: 4 games for Canada against Suriname, Bermuda, Cayman Islands and Aruba which will be held in March and June 2021. Group winners will play their 2 game playoff in June 2021. And The Ocho to be played in September 2021 - March 2022.

I'm excited for this. And also, Dayne St. Clair looks like the real deal. I hope he gets a shot with the National Team at some point. I think we have such a bright future with all of this young talent in general!

Ayo Akinola will be playing for the US. Kind of annoying, given where he's lived most of his life, but also kind of awesome that this hurts less than during basically any other era of our program.

100% agree on capping St. Clair asap.
That draw broke well for Canada. Toughest away trips would have been Surinam and Bermuda, super far away and probably the most hostile crowd in Surinam they get both of them at home. The away trips they did get are easy ones to Cayman and Aruba which should be pretty nice trips for the players with small home crowds.
Also getting Haiti in round 2 is no cakewalk but one of the better draws. Panama, ES are tough trips, curacao is the best team, Haiti or Trini were the best two options.
Hopefully they can execute and get to the Ocho, would be a fun fall of soccer.
