The Leafs have acquired C/LW Zack Smith along with a 2021 4th rounder (COL) from the Washington Capitals in exchange for a 2022 3rd (TOR).
Toronto suffered a blow to its bottom-six and PK with the loss of Johan Larsson, likely for the season, due to a torn MCL, so they needed to act fast to solidify that part of the lineup as they continue to fight to stay in a playoff spot in the toughest conference in the league, the mighty East. The Leafs had an extra 3rd to throw around in 2022, so it felt a fair price for an expiring contract. There were other good offers, but this one stood out for the recoup of a 4th-rounder this year.
Leafs GM Quigz told bewildered reporters that he had been binging the Saved by the Bell reboot recently and felt it was imperative he acquire a player named Zack, in the hopes everyone sporting that name possesses the "time out" powers of the show's star.
When told he already had a player with that name in Zach Hyman, an agitated Quigz yelled, "But it's spelled wrong!" and promptly left the podium, attempting a "time out" gesture several times in frustration while walking off the stage.

St L gets Howden who's 22 years old, has decent stats, is struggling a bit NHL wise but worth a role of the dice. Ryan seems to be bouncing back in Detroit, but his contract is 625k a year so he can be bought out or traded. but has a high jerk factor.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired Joel Edmundson and Noel Hoefenmayer form the New York Islanders in exchange for Artem Zub and a 3rd round pick.
In Joel and Noel, Leafs GM Quigz was able to fulfill his wish of acquiring an easy rhyme scheme, after several futile weeks of trying to write poetry about Artem Zub.
