Mandatory Activity: Roster Checks (deadline Monday)

Hey folks
This is one of the most important off-season activities. I've updated the sim with all trades, signings and releases. But I now need everyone to check their rosters and send in corrections. With hundreds of off-season moves there will be mistakes that need to be corrected.

In addition, this is also your chance to add positions to your players. As a reminder, once our season starts, players can only play positions that are included for them in the sim.

Let's take this a piece at a time.

Step 1.
Download the GM editor if you haven't already

Step 2.
Download the updated roster file:

^Please do these steps now or within 24 hours. Otherwise you will get an error that the file is too old and I will have to re-upload. Do it now otherwise it's a pain for me.

Step 3.
Email cphltrade with all your changes in the following format. Please remember I have to do this for every team so follow the format and be clear and accurate.

Subject line: *insert Team name* changes
Content:

1. Players to be added
- This should include the players name, and which team they are on now, or if they are unassigned in the sim
- Only players that played enough games in the AHL or NHL have ratings. if you want a player added that isn't in the sim, note it, but remember they will have 50s across the board

2. Players to be deleted from your team

3. Positions to be added for each player
Put the name of the player the positions to be added, and a link that proves they can play that position
Player profiles from acceptable sites are
- NHL.com
- TSN
- The Hockey News
- Sportsnet
- ESPN
- hockeydb
- Capfriendly
- Rotoworld
- Hockeyreference

Not acceptable
- Articles that make mention of a player's position. We need profiles
- Hockeysfuture
- Eliteprospects
- Junior hockey links to justify an NHL position

Forward is not good enough to justify the player being used in all positions. Similarly "winger" doesn't mean you can play them as RW and LW. We need specific positions.

4. ECHL players you wish to sign that you haven't already.

Question, do positions reset? Ie if they were a RW/LW in the SIM but now there is only a link for LW, does that mean they are only LW?

If you are missing a player, is there an easy way to find out what team he is on?

Not sure I understand but if they don’t have that position in the sim it needs to be added

If they currently have that position in the SIM, but there are no roster links showing that position anymore, then does that position in the SIM disappear?

1. At one time we used to play farm games as well, it no longer matters. Regardless, we are just checking rosters and making sure our rosters are correct.... and also adding positions to those players. There's no need to worry about pro team/scratched. That will come when we start playing pre-season games

2. No need right now to submit lineups. Just the email of your missing players/additions and position changes and ECHKL signings

Rotoworld doesn't exist anymore. The site rebranded in February to NBC Sports Edge apparently. It still looks like it has decent player bios though.

Also, THN/SI sucks now, imo.

Sharks decided to save a 5th round pick for the second year in a row and did this task ourselves as opposed to tasking it to Doug...

Obviously not this season but capfriendly is by far the best and its updated regularly. It would be cool to have that as the only source for player positions.

The Carolina Hurricanes will be announcing a temporary setback due to lack of external funding, our 5-year rebuild has been pushed back to a 7 year

Hurricanes will also be making cutbacks in our Player Research Department

I'd like to again stress how valuable it is to take the time to find as many positions for your forwards as possible. It greatly increases their trade value, in my opinion at least.

If I put a player that can play all 3 forward positions on the trade block and have 2 offers: one with a player who can play 2 positions and one who can play 1, it's a big difference.

Trade value aside, it's also super valuable to each individual team when injuries occur. Being able to move guy up and down the lineup and play in different spots is a huge help.

I only stress this after many years of seeing numerous players locked into one single position when they could easily play other ones as well.

See how I view it is the more restricting the position sources are the more trading would happen. Ex: “Looking to trade a RW for a LW because of an injury”. The more positions players play the less need to trade. This it pure speculation on my part but I feel like we would see more trading.
