Matthew Tkachuk has 18 points in 18 games.
His linemate Backlund has 5 points in 18 games.
Tkachuk is absolutely amazing.

Great win, Tkachuck is an absolute beast. 18 in 18 is unreal and I'll honestly say I think he's the best Flame on the team.

I gotta give credit to the Coyotes. More often then not they are seen as a joke every season, and an easy way to pad the points. But something is different about them this season. Their goalie played pretty good and they have really good speed from their forward group. They've bought into their coaches philosophy and look to be playing for each other. Sure they are still boring AF, but it's working for them.
I wouldn't be surprised one bit to see them make the playoffs this season. Would much rather cheer for them to make the playoffs then any of the other Pacific teams.

A couple of other interesting stats....Michael Frolik is a team worst -10 (next closest is Hanifin and Jankowski at -7) and has the third most PIMs with 16 (Lucic has 30 and Tkachuk has 20). With these stats he negatively impacting the team. Its really puzzling how is play has dropped off from only a few months ago when he was arguably one of the best players at the Worlds.

Sure. That is why you watched it 150 times. To see where the skirt matched the background. Right....

It's also kind of sad really. Ideally Monahan would get going and maybe you could take Lindholm off the top line so Tkachuk could play with a linemate that is on a similar talent level.

hmm, but have you considered adding BENNETT to that line so Tkachuk has someone to play with?

Bennett is looking alright these days.
If you could roll with Johnny-Monahan and Tkachuk-Lindholm, you would have the makings of two dangerous top lines that most contenders have.
Mangipane/Bennett could fill in one of those blanks, but I'm afraid you need to trade for another winger. I lament the Valimaki injury so much because that would have given Brad the freedom to trade a d-man (Brodie or Hamonic) for a very healthy return to bolster the top line.
Alas.

Backlund really has ####ing sucked offensively this year, like wow that’s bad.
Tkachuk has been dragging him and Frolik around all season

I'd like a little less clutch, and awe inspiring come backs and a little more consistency.
I thought that the pummeling in the playoffs would have been a motivating factor. But at times this team seems lost and unmotivated.

He started hitting the skids two years ago. IMO he's similar to Glencross where he went from NHLer to non-NHLer rapidly. Happens to some athletes in their early 30's where they lose it fast.

Oilers have Zach Kassain as a passenger on the McDavid/Draisaitl line. It's a matter of at least giving him one player with similar skills and right now he's playing with bottom 6 talent at center and wing.

His name isn't brought up a lot when posters discuss trades but I'm not sure I want to see what the Flames are getting for $5.3 million in 2022+. Depending on how things go this season I would hope he's one of the players that Treliving tries to move out.

Frolik is a decent player with no major issues but no major strengths, and without a lot of natural goalscoring ability who has scored in the past through hard work, firing a lot of pucks and being smart enough to bang at the rebounds Backlund created. In the past he has brought some good honest play, plus decent backup FO stats, which put him in good stead as a checker. It may be time to get what can be gotten for him. He's still a useful enough guy for some teams, on an expiring contract. Or, if not, and if there's cap space, I don't think he's really the negative his +/- suggests and he's decent plug and play depth.

Taking a while to get to 5000

I would trust Frolik on the 2L more than Mangiapane or anyone else right now. What he might lack offensively he can make up for defensively and thats whats needed most at the moment.

Tkachuk is excellent, no doubt.
To be fair to Backlund, as this gap is quite large, there have to be at least a half dozen points there where Tkachuk is on the ice without Backlund, ex. either on the PP, or on the ice with someone else in OT.
Doesn’t close the gap entirely, and you can’t, but you aren’t comparing apples to apples.

The Flames are fine. They'll make the playoffs pretty easily as we play in a pretty easy division. They need to make some pretty big changes for the playoffs though or we'll get swept again.

Probably a coincidence.
Tkachuk leads the team with 14 even strength points. Backlund has 5.
