Great home grown player, but also one that they got out from under from before he became too expensive.
Feel for the guy with his concussion issues, it really sucks. But from a risk standpoint his style of play and streakiness of scoring would have made him a dangerous player to keep and pay.

Agreed....as great as he was for a couple different segments of his time in Calgary, he simply wasnt a guy to give big dollars nor term too. Glad he found it elsewhere though.
While in retrospect, due to his injury, it appears to be a positive we let him go.
I still maintain that he held a unique skill-set in the NHL (speed, toughness, size, played up and down the lineup) that very few players can match (think Tom Wilson without the cheap shots, or Lucic in his prime).
The fact that he appears to be a great guy as well, makes me sad he isn't still a Flame.
If he can overcome his injuries and play on a regular basis, I think Vancouver will benefit from having him and his contract will be high value.

One of my all time favorite Flames. I was real mad when the traded him, even though it was the right call.
He may have wound up being too expensive if we kept him, but I feel like with him we wouldn't have a need for Lucic who is far more overpaid than he would have been and Ferland could've provided more offence IF his game continued to blossom in Calgary.
In hindsight, with all his injuries, we dodged a bullet.
I notice little details like that. It's how I'm wired. Makes my wife mad sometimes because I just can't avoid pointing out little things sometimes. I can't help it.
