Where were you 31 years ago tonight?
May 25, 1989
Greatest day in my sport fandom life.
Electric Ave was insane after the game ended around 7:30...made our way down there after watching it at the BP Avenida pub.
What a night.
These guys remember it well too!

We had a friend group divided in half... those that were 18 and those that were almost 18.
First group went to a bar on 10th and 4th that my dad had a partial interest in, and we were treated like royalty. Great night.
Then spilled on to Electric Avenue to meet up with the 17 year olds.
Funniest memory was a tug of war with a city cop with my buddy playing the role of the rope. The cop wanted him in a patty wagon, I was trying to get him out of trouble. The cop was nice enough to say "do you want to come too?" to which I let go.

Did you ever get the feeling that things were getting to the point that violence was about to erupt?
I mean there had to be 10 thousand in a 2 block stretch at one point and lots of them were alcohol fueled obviously. We ducked into the F&F IIRC (one of our guys was son of an owner or something) because it was getting somewhat tense outside.
Made a decision to leave the area shortly after and get back to the safety of S. Calgary where the party went way into the evening.

The Pointe & Feather in Oakridge, back when it was a small place with about six tables. When the game ended, the owner came over to every table and poured champagne for everyone and handed out cigars.

oh boy what a day
that morning as I arrived for work , learned that the Expos had acquired Mark Langston (for some schlub named Randy Johnson- and you guys thought the Hull trade was bad!). Anyways the half of me that was a Montreal sports fan (not my hockey half!!!) was excited that the team was 'going for it'
then I got to focus my allegiance on the main task at hand...game 6
we convened at our watering hole (Bottlescrew Bill's) to watch the game...really once Lanny roofed his goal, I started feeling something resembling confidence
somehow we ended up, through some Mcgyver-esque moves with a 66 CFR Go Flames Go Billboard off a train overpass and armed with that and some mickeys off to 11th ave we went. the boys in blue kindly asked us to dispose of the latter (but not the billboard) and we had mostly honest fun that night, didn't veer too dangerous that I recall

Was very young, at our place in Edmonton. This is actually the first NHL game I can recall ever watching.

I was 7 years old, and obsessed with the flames already, I was watching by myself in the basement as there was a scare about my grandmother having cancer so we had some family members over consoling my mother (it was a false alarm then though it was eventually cancer/tumour that killed her ~25 years later).
I don't remember much about the game itself now, but remember vividly counting down the last part of the 3rd period with my finger tips touching the tv screen. I wanted to be as close to the moment as possible as I just knew it was going to be epic.
Low and behold, it's my favourite sports memory, as I approach 40. The 2004 run was a close second, but I only got to enjoy it from afar, as I was living in Toronto by then.

I think there was a big line-up and we didn't get in until the third period?

Watched the majority of the game, but heard the actual end of the game on the radio driving to work. Was on the night shift, so I missed out on all the celebration.
I did go to Game 5, but it was a pretty big bummer to not be partying on Electric Avenue after we won it all. Made it to the parade a few days later.
