At the end of the day it’s about $$. Isn’t it always? Teams are (mostly) fine with whatever regs as long as they don’t change the engine formula too much (V6 hybrids). Ross Brawn, F1’s head of Motorsport ops, will be able to negotiate that no problem with the teams. It’ll come down to what Chase Carey (F1’s Bettman), and Brawn, can negotiate with teams for money split and budget cap.
Ferrari, Merc and RBR don’t want a budget cap. And a team like RBR are worried Merc and Ferrari will cheat by using their retail vehicle divisions to develop tech and bypass the cap. Then you have teams like Renault who want a cap but they want it set at what they’re already spending.

Another neat tech article from Giorio Piola...not sure how I hadn't heard about him before this year. Loving his tech descriptions and artistry. I find he really highlights just how insanely technical the aerodynamics are on these cars. The tiniest vane can make a big difference. And I still struggle with the blown axles...lol.
Did I hear that Porshe is going to have a team in a couple years? Would they be a powerhouse spender like Mercedes and Ferrari?
They were going to enter in 2021 (new rule/financial structure in F1) but backed out late last year, along with Lambo. I was so disappointed when I heard...
I know Porsche has a Formula E team that will compete next year...and I'm pretty sure that alone will get me to a race somewhere. F-E is still gimmicky (fan boost, etc.) and the current race tracks are too damn tight so its like bumper cars out there. But they have some very legit drivers and there's a bunch of works team (Nissan, Audi, BMW, Jaguar) so it will mature over time. https://images.app.goo.gl/c96Y2EBHfpBvV4qH8 https://www.motorsport.com/formula-e...t-car/4347914/
Yeah a number of large manufacturers like Ford Audi Toyota etc. have been involved in F1 strategy meetings recently but none of them were willing to commit for 2021. Cost is obviously an issue especially the expense of the hybrid engines to develop.

I read somewhere that VAG has been thinking of entering and might do it under the Audi brand since Porsche is in Formula E. I don't think it's been anything serious though just rumours
Edit: No I think I have that backwards, Audi is the one in Formula E

Formula E is starting to peak my interest more each year. The Mexico race this year was still the best race I've seen in a long time from any level of racing.
I can't get into Formula E. The idea of developing a strategy around a battery dying just annoys me. Everything I own that's battery powered is a pain, it's always dead or dying, I don't want that in cars

It's quite a bit better now. They are 45min races + 1 lap. The batteries are designed to be near empty at the end, and you can control how much power you use through the race with your right foot + recharging under braking. Basically it's exactly the same as gas powered now and running out. I dont recall a case of battery packs dying/failing...but drive shafts, thats a different story.
I believe it was the Mexico race where Wehrlein ran out of power and Di Grass (??) passed him on the last corner. It was actually quite exciting.
The thing that bugs me is the "Fan Boost" and the requirement to hit 2 "boost" stations for an extra 25kW of power for 4 min. The "boost" I guess can be argued to be not much different than "push to pass" or DRS...but that Fan Boost is hella lame.
Well FP1 & 2 are done in China...and it looks like it's anyone's race. I haven't seen any of it yet, just read a few reports online. No idea how to even go about picking a top 10. Ferrari has apparently run on a different tire strategy than Mercedes but has apparently had cooling issues again which held back Leclerc in P2. It's also been really cold (+15c, lol) which is going to hurt the cars that can't find the tire window.

Hamilton finishes outside of top 10. I’m thinking first corner crash or damage. Gasly continues to struggle. Renault finally gets some decent results for both drivers. Norris continues to surprise.
Ferrari finally break out and finish 1/2. Verstappen with fastest lap.
