Default R-r-r-r-re-rates! Now with G-g-g-g-grids!

Folks, here are the re-rates for the upcoming season.

http://cphl.calgarypuck.com/pages/si...-Re-rates.xlsx

With grids:
http://cphl.calgarypuck.com/pages/si...tes_Grids.xlsx

A few pieces of guidance
- Do not concern yourself with how much a player has increased or decreased in ratings. This is misleading. More look at if they've moved up or down in terms of how they are ranked against their peers.

- No ratings package is perfect. We have not tweaked these nor will we. That is a slippery slope that introduces subjectivity into something. Instead we will all live with the mostly good, a little bit of bad, with a 3rd party package

- Keep in mind the OVR is just a formulaic total of each attribute. OVR by itself doesn't define how good a player is in the sim, the individual attributes are. Moreover, certain attributes can be reasons why some guys are rated higher. As an example, the ST rating is based on the player's size, so bigger players get a boost from that. There are examples of goalies and dmen who have high OVR, but driven a lot by a high ST rating.

- Players who didn't play AHL/NHL last season are likely not going to be included, and won't have playable ratings for next season.

You are welcome to discuss the ratings, but remember - we aren't adjusting these. We take the off the shelf as is and we have done an overall evaluation to conclude that this package is good overall.

As a great TV show once stated "you take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have...our new ratings".

I briefly regretted giving up 77 overall Bryan Rust before I realized that Columbus has to re-sign him to a nonsense grid contract.

Anyway here's our ok team. I wish I hadn't traded Karlsson, but I guess I needed to satisfy that condition. Still, a 1st and Pavelski isn't a terrible return.

Parise (72) - Pavelski (71) - Brown (70)
Neal (70) - Eller (72) - Labanc (67)
Bellemare (67) - Carter (69) - Nieto (66)
Caggiula (65) - Sheahan (65) - Clutterbuck (65)

Myers (71) - Stralman (69)
Pettersson (69) - Zaitsev (68)
Sekera (66) - DeMelo (67)

Lehner (85)
Francouz (82)

Top-tier goalie tandem, for sure. Hope I can afford to sign Pavel.

As for my RFAs... well it looks like they're all going to be cheap, which is nice. But man this is somewhat underwhelming (as per usual with my team's re-rates, for some reason).

I'll put together a rating comparison like I did last year, hopefully tomorrow, which will rank players and compare the rank to last years to show how they've moved up or down relative to eachother.

Alright I didn't feel like waiting so here it is, I did it quick but I think it's right. Same as last year, there are 3 extra columns at the end, 2020 rank, 2019 rank and the difference. All players with the same rating are the same rank which was done on last years ratings as well. So this gives a comparison of players against each other year over year.

N/A means they didn't have a rating last year or there's a spelling difference in the ratings packages and I'm not sorting through all the players for spelling.

Let me know if anyone has any problems seeing it or sees any errors.

Overall pretty solid. 1 outlier in my group with Dahlin but that happens.

flambers also traded for Skjei who was a 73 OVR as well!!

Anyone see errors on the last 2 columns? I didn't until I just looked on my phone.

As always goalies look like a dice roll.

Blackwood and Koskinen are the 10th and 11th best goalies? Crawford 13th?

No wonder they have such random trade values, no one knows until re-rates whether they have a backup or stud.

Overall very pleased with this...

Rask - 2nd best rated goalie and only making $6.5mill
Can lock down Tarasenko, Reinhart and Trouba on reasonable deals
Glad I dumped Jankowski
Mac and Stamkos both 79OV - two of the best rated C's in the league

Blackwood is a steal of a ratings deal for the Rangers.
Lundqvist falling to 50th makes me feel bad for the old fella.
Zibanejad higher than Drai, Matthews and MacKinnon seems off to me.
Pasta seems low too.
But, those are just quick observations, not complaints.
I'd love to know the metrics they used to determine the ratings.

We're super happy to see Svechnikov rate so well for his rookie season.
Oshie and Hayes rated higher than we thought as well.

I'm excited to see how everyone's roster looks after this and very pumped to see how the draft unfolds this year!

Thanks Commissioners for selecting a package and getting it out so quickly.

This will help trade volume and GM's to plan their off-seasons.

Similar to what agulati mentioned in the lines thread it seems like there are some players who are not even rated due to holdouts and/or major injuries.

- Dustin Byfuglien
- Colin Wilson
- Martin Hanzal
- Kevan Miller

I am sure there is more.
