Well, if these are your MLAs, they are letting Bill 207 move forward.

Where does it end? Doctor of religion A doesn't want to treat patient of religion B? Maybe not likely, but why even open these doors to begin with?

Guys. It's all about Jobs, Economy, and Pipelines. JK told us so. There is no other ulterior motives with this bill.

The United Christian Party UCP said it was only about jobs, economy, and pipelines. No carbon tax. Referendum on equalization. This bill is clearly to put Albertans economy first, right?

Some MLAs are just too busy. For example the Premier is too busy going to partisan think tank conferences on how they can extend their regressive brand of politics to municipalities

One of the agenda items was how to get more conservatism onto municipal councils by 2021. Yay!

I hate that the MLAs all just vote with their party. I know it's a crazy idea, but could they not think and vote for themselves?

Quote:
Speaking to the Manning Centre “What’s Next?” Conference, Kenney said that Albertans are expressing unprecedented levels of frustration with the federal government and the barriers being placed in the way of Alberta’s economy.
The Premier outlined initiatives already taken by the government to stand up for Alberta, steps that it will take in the months to come, and a number of deeper reforms that it will consult on through the Fair Deal Panel.

Premier Kenney also announced the launch of the Fair Deal Panel to consult Albertans on how best to define and to secure a fair deal for Alberta. The panel will also look at how best to advance the province’s vital economic interests, such as the construction of energy pipelines.
Specifically, the panel will consider whether the following measures would advance the province’s interests:
  • Establishing a provincial revenue agency to collect provincial taxes directly by ending the Canada-Alberta Tax Collection Agreement, while joining Quebec in seeking an agreement to collect federal taxes within the province.
  • Creating an Alberta Pension Plan by withdrawing from the Canada Pension Plan.
  • Establishing a provincial police force by ending the Alberta Police Service Agreement with the Government of Canada.
  • Emulating Quebec’s practice of playing a larger role in international relations, in part by seeking Alberta representation in treaty negotiations that effect Alberta’s interests.
  • Emulating Quebec’s legal requirement that public bodies, including municipalities and school boards, obtain the approval of the provincial government before they can enter into agreements with the federal government.
  • Using the existing provincial power to appoint the Chief Firearms Office for Alberta.
  • Opting out of federal cost share programs with full compensation, such as the federal government’s proposed pharmacare program.
  • Seeking an exchange of tax points for federal cash transfers under the Canada Health and Social Transfers.
  • Establishing a formalized provincial constitution.
For all the slag they give Quebec, they sure want to emulate them. Several of these items looks like ignoring every lesson regarding economies of scale and the fact Quebec has double the population, and much higher taxes than us.

Quote:
The Fair Deal Panel will consist of the following members:
  • Honourable Preston Manning PC CC AOE
  • Stephen Lougheed
  • Oryssia Lennie CM
  • Jason Goodstriker
  • Donna Kennedy-Glans QC
  • Moin Yahya PhD JD
  • Drew Barnes MLA
  • Miranda Rosin MLA
  • Tany Yao MLA

Oh Good, Preston Manning is back meddling in ####. Go away, old man. This is all garbage. ugh.

This might be the first good piece of rhetoric out of Kenny. These are actionable items to preserve wealth in Alberta while putting pressure on the federal government. Having a Panel called the fair deal panel is pretty stupid however investigating provincializing items that are constitutionally the responsibility of the province is a good idea.

Notley spent 4 years with the carrot. Having Kenny build up the stick is reasonable.

Will Kenny screw these things up as he creates them? Probably. However the idea of these is sound.

Iím actually very supportive of a couple of the ideas, including withdrawing from the CPP and collecting our own taxes.

Equalization is a dead horse, and unless true changes to how it is calculated come into play, nothing we can do here. (Also before you respond with Harper/JK were responsible for current formula, amending it would have been political suicide in Quebec and economic timeís were much different)

I'm all for CPP, Collecting taxes and throwing the RCMP out and establishing our own inter provincial Police Force.

I've said it all along, I've always looked at the whole Quebec Separatist movement and their ability to siphon a ton of things from the rest of Canada with a lot of dislike, but I've also said I've somewhat admired their squeeky wheel strategy that means whenever they get a cold the Federal Government comes running with hankies and chicken soup.

I think the current constitution is a outdated document, it doesn't work and provinces like Quebec and BC for example ignored it, and the GOC is more concerned with party, election and votes to enforce it or fight for it.

It needs to be re-neogitated or opened to reduce Federal Powers and increase provincial powers to have the ability to set their own trade agreements with provinces, and protect provincial interests. Canada isn't a country as much as a loose confederation of self interested a-holes anyways, so we need to go more on that model.

What benefit is there to collecting our own taxes? It's not like we would be able to withhold equalization. Sounds like it is a make work project.
