Watched the whole thing on TV and was so excited they won I couldn't sleep all night. The recap montage HNIC did to "Wind beneath my wings" almost made me cry.

I was in junior high at the time and most of the guys in my class were dirty oiler fans (I grew up in Lethbridge) and I had bets with a bunch of them. I ended up winning nearly $100 and one of those Safeway Flames cakes they used to make.

I don't remember much about the game or the Stanley Cup celebration, but that Bette Midler montage is seared into memory.

As is the Tom Cochrane "Good Times" montage that 2&7 did afterwards.

Local Calgary channel did a montage to the Proclaimers "I'm On My Way" as well.

"I'm on my way from misery to happiness today"

Electric Ave, we were 17 and watched from Crystal Palace pool Hall. Spilled out to the street and it was pure chaos. Felt safe the entire time.

10 years old, living in Sask, my life as a sports fan peaked that year.

Now I only wish they would win so my son could have a similar experience.

Found the 2&7 montage -- courtesy of Winsor_Pilates who uploaded the entire Stanley Cup celebration at Olympic Plaza: https://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=84356

This montage is from the 2&7 broadcast of Salute to Champions that followed the 1989 cup parade and took place at the Olympic Plaza. I always watch this before the Flames start the playoffs and it has given me years of joy and memories. Hope you enjoy it too.

I've got the entire broadcast (about 80 min) in divx format too, and would like to put it up somewhere so people can download it too. If anyone more tech savvy can recommend a file hosting site that will allow over 1 hr of video and over 500 mb, please let me know. The video is a classic must have for all Flames fans, featuring Ed Whalen, intros of the entire team, interviews with a few of them, a speech by Lanny and more.

For now, here is the great montage.
Merry Christmas and hope you enjoy....

EDIT: Full Video Added in 2 parts. About 40 min each.

Part 1:

Part 2:

Videos can be downloaded from Vimeo as well if desired

Good ol' Grant Pollock and Mike Toth...

I was in grade 8 at Hamilton in Lethbridge.

Every year my mom goes room by room and spring cleans the room by taking everything out, cleaning and then reorganizing as it gets put back. That was the night my mom decided was my room's turn. Bad timing! We were fighting a bit because I would wander off to watch the game. I think maybe my dad told her that this is big because she laid off me after the 2nd period. I finally gave up completely trying to help her wash walls and move furniture in the 3rd period anyway.

What a great night. The phone rang off the hook for the next couple of hours.

I remember that Wind Beneath My Wings video quite well. I paid attention to the year end montages every year since then... until Sportsnet took over broadcast rights from CBC. Clearly that one is my most memorable.

I was wearing my red Joe Nieuwendyk jersey and red Calgary Flames sweatpants and was ready to celebrate.

The next day at school I don't think I learned a thing.

My wife said she was playing soccer. Not a single parent was watching on the field as they were all in their cars listening to the game. She said suddenly all the cars horns started honking and the kids on the field knew the Flames had won the Cup! They started high fiving each other, even the team they were playing.

I was on a flight to Halifax, the captain was giving us passengers regular updates but in his last update you could tell he wasn't a flames fan.

Watched at home with my dad and then he took me cruising around the city after the game. Amazing night and hopefully we get to experience that again for all of those who haven't.

I was 7 years old, living in Cyprus, with no idea what hockey was, let alone the Calgary Flames.

11 years old at home. After they won the cup we went out and reenacted the game out in our cul de sac. Carried a dart board around as our stand in for the Stanley cup.

Man. I’m so jealous of you Calgary guys.
I grew up in SE Sask. Most of my friends were either Oilers fans, Jets fans or Redwing fans (hometown boy Tim Cheveldae had just made the show)
So needless to say my 12 year old ass watched the game by myself. Sadly I don’t remember much I can very vividly remember Lanny, Pepper and Timmy with the cup.
I also remember my mom surprised me and had my aunt (who lived in Calgary) send me a Stanley Cup Champions Sweater. Man I wore that thing with pride for the year. Especially around my no good Oiler fan buddies.
