Ie. His money is doubled but also guaranteed.

Pretty sure Hitchcock had the same kind of enticement: pay out his entire remaining stars contract PLUS a new contract with term that pays him out fired or not.
I am sure you are right. He can have double meat at Subway for the rest of his life now.

On paper, this seems like a good hiring but this is the Oilers, so it will likely fail spectacularly

Not worried about this one bit. There is a reason Detroit moved on and sent him out to pasture. Great GM in his heyday but times have changed and he hasn't. Can't teach an old dog new tricks.

So Edmonton paid a ton of dough to a guy to rebuild their team who just failed at rebuilding a team?

There is no question he has the full reigns here IMO and can remove and hire whomever he likes sans Bob Nicholson.

It will take time though and who knows if Katz has the appetite for seeing that through and if he really has learned not to parrot what the Lowe/MacTavish ear buds have been telling him to do.

Lots and lots of areas to improve for them, but a pretty good starting point is a guy like Holland.
I think your post was more apt a long time ago.

Ah, but that's where Nicholson has the better of you - the Oilers don't need to rebuild. They just need a couple of solid UFA's to win the Cup.

The Oilers don't think they are rebuilding. They think they are in their window now.

Does anyone here have an inside track on the the people who plan the parade route in Edmonton for next years' Stanley Cup champions parade - since they hired Holland, this is almost a certainty of the parade being back on... and I think we all want good seats.

Well... since McDavid's draft ... duh.... McDavid just needs to work on his glove hand this off-season and they'll have the perfect team for Holland to take all the way to the promise land.

Oh sweet lord.....the Edmonton Oilers have the 4th highest payroll in the NHL and the corresponding lack of cap space.

Anyone want to guess who is #1? Come on....

The Detroit Red Wings.....

Oh Oilers....you cant make this stuff up....

I'm going to guess:

- Yzerman
- McPhee (until recently)
