Not a fan.

He’s still a good 5.

This better open up enough space for Tkachuk without moving anyone else.

I hope that Michael Stone lands on his feet. He is a good guy, and deserves another spot in the NHL.

The buyout is less about the player and more about the awful salary for a guy that would be a scratch most nights

I guess that means that Kylington learns to play the right, and they pick up a 750K Stone clone.

Or, and hear me out, they keep Brodie.

Giordano-Brodie
Hanifin-Hamonic
Valimaki-Andersson

This team can sign Tkachuk at $8M and Mangiapane at $900-950k and ice a roster of 21 players to start the year

Don't buy out Stone and you end up making trades for pennies on the dollar

I don't think he gets another NHL contract.

all the best to him. D depth caught up with him and that scary health issue didn't help, but still a solid player and good guy by all accounts ... Flames just need the cap space. Hope he lands on his feet quickly.

I think he undoubtedly does. Right handed shot who won’t cost much and has put together good seasons in the past

I have them just under cap if tkachuk gets bridge deal at 6.75 and mangipane gets 900k.

I still see a trade coming as they would be about 60k under.

The good though is they can take players back now as long as they come in a bit cheaper. This assuming tkachuk takes 6.75 though

Still not enough. That should give them just under $7M in cap space with Tkachuk and Mangiapane both to sign. Somebody still has to move.

Really? I think he's still a good 6-7 D. He'd probably have gotten some games here if Tkachuk didn't need a new deal.

God damnit. Good luck, Stone. I never once thought you were a problem or liability, and that doesn't happen often.

Keep your blood thin.

Sigh...another buyout. Treliving needs to improve the pro scouting badly or this team will constantly have 2-3 buyouts on the books every year. This may also be a sign that the market value on Frolik and Brodie isn’t to Treliving’s liking either. I’m also not sure this buyout garners enough cap space to sign both 19 & 88.

I still wonder why no one is taking Stone for a late pick with 50% retained.

Wish Stone the very best. Hopefully he finds a show me contract/PTO to stay in the league. I think he still can be a solid bottom pairing guy on most teams.

A shame we couldn't swing a Frolik for pick/s trade and retain the extra D depth.

The Devils had other plans though.

I think the Flames have a bit more wiggle room than $7M. The Flames won’t be carrying 3 goaltenders, nor will they be carrying 8 defensemen and I would suspect Treliving will only have 13 forwards up instead of 14 all year long.
