Johnny tries that extreme angle shot way too much in the NHL, but when it works it looks nice.

I actually don't mind that he tries it a lot as it keeps goaltenders honest so they can't cheat pass.

I disagree that he uses it “too much”.

The book on him is he can make a great cross crease pass, beat you with a wraparound, or a quick shot shortside.

He keeps goalies honest by having this move in his back pocket as they can’t cheat the pass or the wraparound.

Downside to that shot is when it misses and carries up the boards and out of the zone.

And he really only does it when there's no better option.

The better option most of the time would be to hold onto the puck and wait for a better passing or shooting opportunity.

Also get's goaltenders to hesitate before the come off that near post for the wrap around. When the cheat they can thwart the wrap around easily.

He could hold the puck behind the net, but do that everytime and teams will adjust and you are easy to defend.

Not if he's skating into traffic or getting cut off at the pass, which is what happens when he is in the corner like that. And I don't think that shot is lower percentage than, say, a wraparound.

He an also pump fake this shot, since he does it so frequently and open up slot passes and the wraparound.

Gaudreau went into the boards awkwardly, but seems to be ok.

Has Gaudreau played in the third? I haven't seen him. Sure hope it is precautionary and not serious.

Isn't it kind of pathetic to only beat GB 6-3 if you're the US?

Not hearing or seeing any news on this so I'm betting it was just precautionary. Against GB, why risk anything.
