Would you say Brett Leason compares to Mark Jankowski?
Both are huge centres whose strength appears to be playmaking, although Brett looks like he has more of a scoring touch with his 33 goals already this season.
Leason probably wouldn't take 5 years to develop like Jankowski did, he's already 19 years old, does this mean we could see Brett Leason in the AHL next year?

Yegor Afanasayev looks to be putting up some serious production in the USHL.
I’ve got my eyes on him.

I just happened to notice the L.A. Kings have four prospects from Calgary.
Jaret Anderson-Dolan
Austin Wagner
Sheldon Rempal
Austin Strand

Looking around some mock drafts in the 26 range. Brett Leason stands out. Big fast sniper rw. With the sheer amount of Centers and D men in this 1st round. A guy like Leason could be had. From some highlight packages, this guy could be out of the box nhl ready. Doesn't hurt he is 19 and skipped over in 2 drafts. But hes impressive. That shot is something else.
Then there is Egor Afanaseyev, another Sniper winger (actually muskeegons top line C this year but projected winger)with even better speed and a decent 200ft game developing. 6'3"-6'4" and closer to 200 lbs. I'd be looking really hard at this player. Has a brutal bomb of a shot.

Yeah. That shot is something else. I think I got itchy looking at Rantanen and Landeskog and went looking for those types in the Flames range.

After the disaster that was Hunter Smith, I’m no longer a fan of drafting a player that was passed over in their initial draft year.

kanzig was another disaster...
i hope the flames learned from Avs series and don't draft guys that cannot skate...
Leason is low on the boards because he can't skate... is it fixable? Mark Stone plummeted down draft boards because he couldn't skate in junior, but he worked hard on it to become average... so, possibly, but its risky

Mangiapane seem to work out well, but yeah I get it. The first rounder needs or should translate into a roster player beyond the initial ELC. Smith was a reach/hope and prayer pick.

For a 6th round draft pick, sure. Go for an overager. But not with a 1sr rounder IMO. Plus, I don’t think we have a 2nd rounder this draft, right?
Need to make this 26th pick count.

From what I have read, Leesons skating went from liability to a strength, people seems happy with it now.

My targets at 26
Afanasyev
Grewe
Tomasino
Brink
Beecher
Though I think the best thing to do would be to see if a move up can be made.

Adam Beckman from Spokane. Fascinating.
I'm feeling like a bunch of mock 2nd rounders could go anywhere between 15 and 50. Really depends o who teams like.

Albin Grewe is exactly the type of player the Flames need to draft this year."He is at the top of the food chain, a t-rex, eats everything and thinks everything is under him" (Robert Ohlsson Coach 2018).Skilled player that plays physical and with energy each and every shift , should be able to grab him late first round.CHECK HIM OUT!!!

After a little more research, and watching the u18s, I’m not interested in Beecher or Grewe, at least with the first.
One interesting potential pick would be Pavel Dorofeyev. His production is outstanding and I was super impressed by his highlight videos. He reminds me a lot of Pettersson, without the eyes in the back of his head of course. He’s got star potential imo.
A sleeper I am interested in is Layton Ahac. I watched him play at the WJAC and I thought he was the most impressive player on Canada West considering his age. He had a pretty pedestrian season but has been killing it in the playoffs. Smooth skating d-man has a very solid offensive tool kit. Should be available in the third.

for me, skating is the biggest asset.
even if your offensive game doesn't translate, you still have a role in the NHL if you are an elite skater.
Blake Comeau is still having an impact for dallas... i can't believe he's in the league to be honest... .but there he is and looking pretty good in his role.
there's a number of really intriguing players that will be available... i hope they take the lessons from the loss to the Avs to heart: currently, there is no player on the flames that can put a defense on its heels with speed.

Sounds like a big riser after the U-18s is Ilya Nikolayev. 6'1 Left shot Center. Centers projecting into the 2nd round are now intriguing me as this draft there are so many.
But if you can grab this Nikolayev at 26 it's a good day.

Well, Czarnik is really fast. But it doesn't seem to translate into success at all.

the draft is a crapshoot...
i'd rather draft guys that are skilled and can skate...
you want the opposite of that? or are you just being a contrarian?
