Yeah, that scene bugged me as well. I never liked Sasha as a character, and she was never really that close to Rick. I think Glenn would have been the best choice for that scene, considering Rick's inner guilt over allowing Negan to live and the resulting pain that it caused for Maggie.
I gotta admit though, the scene with Hershel choked me up a bit. Apparently that was the last thing Scott Wilson filmed before his death.

I think the jump ahead was needed. You can only watch so much of the different groups squabbling between each other before that gets stale. They proved their point with that, and a lot of it was great TV. I think we'll get to see a fresh take on the surviving cast members, which is definitely needed.
So the plan is to have Rick appear in TWD "movies"?

So he just abandons his family...I don't get that part...or maybe that's what the movies will be about.
A reunion with Morgan and a an epic battle with the helicopter people to overthrow oppression and get back to his family.
Can you stretch that out in a trilogy ??

It does seem strange that he wouldn't find a way to get back to Judith after about 7 years.
My guess is that he'll have to spend a significant amount of that time in some kind of prison or labour. The whole "A" or "B" thing with Jadis, suggests that her goal is to harvest people for labour for this other group.
The producers have stated that Rick will not appear in the main series again. This might mean he dies at some point in the movies, or that after the main series ends, they'll have everything wrapped up in a movie, where he reunites with Judith.

I also put off watching until now because of the bad reviews, but I thought the season premiere, and the subsequent epsidoes have all been really good.

The idea of a time jump is fine but the execution was awful, especially the way they introduced the girl. "Judith. Judith Grimes."

So it looks like last night was Maggie's last episode for this season. It sounds like they still want her to make occasional appearances but have to work out when with lawyers.

The scene with Maggie and Negan was quite good. I half expected Negan to trick her, overtake her and escape from his cell. But the guy genuinely seemed emotionally broken, and I kinda felt sorry for him. Terrific acting from Jeffrey Dean Morgan in that scene.

Why was there dynamite on the bridge? What purpose would it have served?

This is a huge stretch, but it could have been used to build the dam upstream that had previously been keeping the water from flowing. Blast out rock to block the water. Seeing as they don't have fuel for vehicles they couldn't use heavy machinery.

That episode may not have been perfect but I was riveted. And I am happy with his fate. Remains to be seen if those movies will be any good at all.
I don't really mind the time jump either and think I will give the next episode a chance. Although I might be back to pressing the fast forward button a lot.

Maybe I am remembering wrong, but didn't they blow up dynamite around the camp to divert zombie herds when they got too close?

Maybe, but why are they storing it on the bridge of all places?

I was interested to see how Ricks story would end.
Was befuddled that there was no family nor Glenn appearance. What on earth?
Then for 30 seconds it felt like an ending, and then it wasn't (yay?), and then the next scene felt like a music video, then Judith is walking around shooting zombies and dropping one liners. Then there is a trailer montage, then the producers talking about feature films starring Rick, as if they were expecting everyone to collectively be gasping at the groundbreaking decision to expand a universe that is declining into boredom with TV movies now. Rick will be alive of course, but never cross with the main story line EVER, just because.
Just what a weird sequence of events that interrupts the flow of everything.
How does Rick fall forward into an explosion to end up in that river?
Execution was messy/unclear, and not in a good way where you really even want to know the answers. Really anticlimactic and head scratching overall.
What is the show building towards? I think it was personified in Rick this episode, wandering about half dead with unnecessary character interaction scenes that don't mean anything, and every so often kicking itself back into consciousness to keep itself alive a while longer.

Kind of surprised by a lack of Glenn, Morgan, Carl, or Lori in Rick's final appearance.
The helicopter had my wondering - maybe the east coast of the US is the only area with the virus and they're just quarantined with the helicopter coming by to pick up "subjects" for testing.
Was Negan being sincere there? It's hard to tell if he's faking it to try to manipulate people. I think he knew Maggie would have killed him if he didn't seem so pathetic near the end there.

Also at the end of season 1 when they were at the CDC, Dr. Jenner said that France was one of the last countries to fall.
