To be driving on an active runway with a 737 stopping short of you sounds more like a dream come true than a hazard, to me.

That does make sense, although it sort of ruins a personal story as I didn't realize there were two runways there.
So thanks, I guess.

Well no more debating about what plane will be the first one to land on the new runway. According to a controller at the YYC tower the first plane to land on it was yesterday, a Cessna 206 with Airport Authority folks on board, a second 206 followed shortly afterwards.
What a glamorous way to christen the new runway, with a nice little Cessna!
Today the Nav Canada RJ will be doing more flight checks of the runway equipment, and it too will land on it today.

Does anyone know how to take part in the June 15 "Roam the Runway" event? It looks like registration is full now...didn't even know about it!

A nice overview of the new terminal, really shows just how it will double the size of the airport:

It's the first "new" section of the airport to open since D widening and is a good preview of what the IFP is gonna be like in terms of finish & materials. Interesting thing to note is the choice of floor in this area...anyone with a keen eye will know what I'm taking about.
Here's a pic, I'll try to post some more tomorrow.
ATB Infill - Opens overnight tonight.
View of the IFP from Concourse A. Note the removal of Gates 1-8 walkway in progress. This is now a bussing operation.
View of the INT/TB Holdroom. Lot's of scaffolding right now, but when it's all gone she's gonna be a beauty.
Looking at the glass wall b/w A&B (Banff Hall), this whole wall is getting pushed out to make way for a corridor b/w the IFP and B,C & D Gates.
Exciting times for sure.
Ps. I'll try to most more pics more often, but I'm not too sure about the rules, so if these are too big I can post smaller ones going forward, just let me know.

I don't have a keen eye, what is special about the flooring?

I'm not sure either, I'm a wood/laminate/cork/vinyl flooring guy but that all appears to be tile/marble.

It looks like there are at least 3 different types of flooring right around the escalators. (and a 4th if you include the light stuff in the main hall)
There is something definitely different about the stuff right in front of the escalators and I notice the "don't try and drive your baggage carts down here, dummy" bars are set much further back and off of that flooring area.

Can someone explain why on east bound Stoney trail they put up a huge sign just before Métis Trail saying 'Airport Exit County Hills Blvd 6km, Follow (Airport pic)'.
Why the heck would they be pushing traffic so Far East when Metis trail is right there??

I noticed that sign yesterday as well.
Nothing like getting drivers to drive an additional 8km or so.
Also, anyone who sees that sign has already taken a wrong turn, as they should be heading southbound on Deerfoot to Airport Trail.
Essentially, that sign tells people who just made a wrong turn to make another, even worse turn.

Yeah, Mazrim's new signs on EB Stoney after Harvet Hills Blvd before Deerfoot confirm that the plan is still to route people down Deerfoot and over on Airport Trail. I get what they're trying to do with that sign, but terrible execution... as always.

That problem can be summed up with "too many cooks in the kitchen". Not sure who did those Airport signs.
