Iggy summered in Kelowna, not Boston or LA or Florida or anywhere else. How many Calgarians summer in Kelowna or other interior BC locations? Nevermind the fact that many other NHLers also summer in Kelowna where they off season train together.

Lots of players don't summer in their NHL city even after they retire to live in that city.

Iginla lived here for nearly 2 decades. His mother moved here and still does despite her family being mostly back in St. Albert and he son and grandchildren now live across the continent.

Gio isn't in a position of fans and media writing articles about him being traded to a contender, giving him a change in his career and life moving across the continent bringing new experiences.

Frankly your post just reeks of a backhanded slag on Iginla because you feel he turned his back on the city after he was traded and how much better a person Gio is.

If it’s a slight at Iginla it is a slight at almost every single NHL player because very few ever do this. Giordano’s decision to stay here is unusual and admirable. If it pisses you off that I think so, then that is your cross to bear.

Hardly nonsense. Some of you are pretty naive when it comes to the sports media and how they are used by their team masters. This story could have been released any time over the summer.

Strategy in negotiating means applying soft pressure consistently on the other side. That is what the flames are doing here

No. It's not. If this is the Flames's idea of "soft pressure," then god helps us all.

I guarantee that Tkachuk sees this story, and then likely thinks to himself something along the lines of "neat." I am virtually certain that he does not suddenly make this bizarre connection: "Hmmm. The captain just decided to settle in Calgary and he is paid a cap hit of only $6.75 m. I guess I had better call my agent and tell him to accept the deal the Flames have on the table."

Yeah, it IS nonsense to think that one thing has anything whatsoever to do with the other. This is conspiracy theorist over-active pattern invention.

In this instance it is being used to emphasize the significance of Giordano's decision to move permanently to Calgary by drawing a comparison to the greatest Flames player of all time. Rather, because I think highly of Iginla already, it speaks very meaningfully to my regard for Giordano on the basis of this decision. It DOES NOT disparage Iginla in any way to point out that Giordano's relationship to the city is different.
