Default NHL Schedule Advantages Based On Rest

Betting guru on twitter laid out the NHL schedule based on rest days for each game.

https://twitter.com/user/status/1173590312255492097

I took the data and built in a simple analysis to look at how many times each team has the advantage, disadvantage or equal rest in games this season. It doesn't take travel into account ... just days between games.

Code:
Team	Adv	DisAdv	Equal	+/-	Rank
Pittsburgh 32	18	32	14	1
Carolina 32	19	31	13	2
St. Louis	30	17	35	13	2
Vegas 33	20	29	13	2
Minnesota 29	18	35	11	5
Anaheim 36	27	19	9	6
Montreal 30	21	31	9	6
LA	30	24	28	6	8
Edmonton 26	22	34	4	9
Chicago 26	24	32	2	10
Detroit 27	25	30	2	10
Washington 26	24	32	2	10
Rangers	30	29	23	1	13
Philadelphia 24	23	35	1	13
Boston 28	28	26	0	15
Nashville 24	24	34	0	15
San Jose	24	24	34	0	15
Winnipeg 23	24	35	-1	18
Columbus 24	26	32	-2	19

Why do the Oilers continue to get a more favorable schedule in this regard than the Flames? One would think given the close proximity of the cities that the league could do a better job alternating the the back to back matchups but it seems like the Oilers always get the more tired teams for the last 3/4 years.

It has been obvious for years now that the Oilers require huge incentives and competitive advantages to even appear like a legitimately competent NHL team. If you take this away from them, they will finish 31st every damn season.

Could it be that CGY is too firm in wanting Thursday and Saturday home games?

Well for one, Calgary seems partial to Sunday games.

And two, there is a day before, as well as a day after, each day of the week.

How many first overall draft picks has this scheduling cost the Oilers over the years!

Last article I saw on back to back games the tired team lost about 0.04 points compared to their average... Is this really a big deal?

Collectively in 2016-17, however, NHL teams averaged 0.04 less points per game when playing for the second straight night than they did when playing on one or more days rest.

I suspect those numbers are badly skewed by the fact that 1) Edmonton faces tired teams so often, and 2) The Oilers are so very no good that they almost always lose anyways.

It sure as #### would be if it were the Oilers that were getting the short end of the stick.

"we only missed the playoffs because we have the hardest schedule!"
