Icon47 Kuznetsov positive cocaine test. IIHF suspends for 4 yrs UPD: NHL suspends for 3 gms

Looks like he has voluntarily entered the NHL/NHLPA counseling program. NHL doesn't consider cocaine a PED, but he has a meeting with Bettman where there might be potential action taken by the NHL.

https://www.iihf.com/en/news/13563/i...ends-kuznetsov
Quote:
The IIHF has suspended Russian ice hockey player Yevgeni Kuznetsov for a violation of World Anti-Doping Code Article 2.1 (Presence of a Prohibited Substance).

The case concerns a test indicating a prohibited substance, cocaine, according to section S6.a (non-specified substance) of the World Anti-Doping Code 2019 Prohibited List. The prohibited substance was found in a doping control which occurred on 26 May 2019 at the 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship.

The player didn’t require the analysis of his B-sample and was provisionally suspended on 13th June 2019.

The period of ineligibility to be imposed shall be four years, concluding on 12th June 2023.
Statement from the NHL:

https://media.nhl.com/public/news/13...&sf107708274=1

Quote:
NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly released the following statement today regarding Washington Capitals’ Player Evgeny Kuznetsov:

“We have been fully briefed by the IIHF with respect to the positive test result and related international sanction that has been imposed on Washington Capitals’ Player Evgeny Kuznetsov.

“Unlike the IIHF, cocaine is not considered a performance enhancing drug and is therefore not a Prohibited Substance under the NHL/NHLPA Performance Enhancing Substances Program. Instead, it is considered a drug of abuse that is tested for and for which intervention, evaluation and mandatory treatment can occur in appropriate cases.

“Here, we understand that Mr. Kuznetsov has voluntarily sought help through the education and counseling program provided for in the NHL and NHLPA collective bargaining agreement and has agreed to a regular testing protocol relating to his involvement with that program.

“Mr. Kuznetsov has also agreed to an in-person meeting with Commissioner Gary Bettman to discuss his situation and review his conduct prior to the start of Training Camp preceding the 2019-20 season. We intend to reserve further comment on any additional actions that may or may not be taken with respect to today’s announcement (disciplinary or otherwise) pending the completion of the Commissioner’s meeting with Mr. Kuznetsov.”

This is after a video was released on the internet back in May showing Kuznetsov with a white powder.

https://russianmachineneverbreaks.co...-with-cocaine/
At that time Kuznetsov said:
Quote:
Yes, I saw the video on the internet. I don’t necessarily have anything to do with what is going on around me. I never used drugs and have no intention to get into it. If there are any questions, I am ready to undergo testing.

The video is a year old. It happened in summer of 2018, when we won the cup in Vegas. It has nothing to do with the World Championship at all. I just came by the room where some people I knew stayed. When I saw what was going on there – unfamiliar women, unknown substances on the table – I called my friend and left as soon as I could.

Unfortunately, someone decided to catch some notoriety just now – after the [Russian team] lost. I have nothing to hide, let this be on conscience of whoever posted the video.

Ya, cocaine is a socially excepted drug these days (in a lot of circles). Definitely not performance enhancing. Scary with the fentanyl taint these days, But really most ppl that are recreational users are not negatively affected by it.

...what? It really must be summer because I’m now going to argue that cocaine is in fact bad for you? There is a laundry list of immediate and long term negative effects. They don’t all show up right away. Perhaps you’re only referring to social effects. But the number of people passing through emerg with cocaine related problems is astounding

I think he might be saying most people who use cocaine don’t develop a cocaine addiction.
