Well the issue with offside is that while people (including the FA) want it to be black and white, it's just not. There are too many factors. The camera isn't looking down the line (which isn't predetermined and not easy to see where that is in the first place). And of course that has to be determined while at the same time determining to within millimeters, apparently, at the set time the ball is kicked. It's way more grey than the black/white people want.
Oh, and in the meantime, you can't enjoy a goal because of this sheer stupidity. But I guess this is an improvement in some strange sense?

Yes. It is an improvement
It's consistency.
And it wasn't a goal. It was offside.

The offside rule is unnecessarily complex. It is physiologically impossible for assistant referees to accurately arbitrate.
Consequently, it led to numerous erroneous decisions, some of them were real head scratchers but most were entirely understanding given the amount of data they had to process whilst often being in a position where it was humanly impossible.
Assistant referees were further undermined by TV pundits who after watching numerous video replays from a multitude of angles, sometimes frame by frame, would criticise them for making a wrong decision. Often this judgement would be followed up by some sort of declaration that the assistant referee will (or should be) disappointed in him/herself.
In some instances, the decisions made had financial impacts that ran into millions of dollars.
In my view, the culpability for this lay not with the assistant referees, but with the administration of the game. They created a rule so complex that even with all the analysis of decisions, pundits (so called experts) disagreed over whether a play was off/onside. The same people would then continue to criticise the poor individual who had to call it. At full speed. In real time. Without the benefit of any tools to assist them in the decision making process.
So, now there is a system in place that can provide a substantial in the accuracy and integrity of officiating. It provides to a far greater extent, the right call in accordance to the rules that apply.
Slava (btw, you autocorrect to ‘Salvation’), I get where you are coming from. However, according to the rules, it was offside. Anything that followed was not a change of the game, it was what should have happened. Had Spurs goal been allowed, THAT would have been the change to the game.
The issue here wasn’t the application of the rule, it was the rule itself.

I thanked you here, because it's a good post on a complex topic. The thing is, I'm not just talking about that goal. Truth is, I feel that Leicester was the better team on the day and at best Spurs deserved a draw, so it's not just that.
But overall, VAR implementation is a joke. That goal just illustrates how silly it is because you have this camera angle and they're drawing lines down. I honestly couldn't see a difference in where the offside line was and where the player was. But truthfully, you have this camera angle where it distorts the life of that actual line in the first place. I understand that it's impossible to have a perfect view of the offside line at all times, and that's why we have assistants running up and down the side lines trying to make those calls in the first place.
I just dislike VAR. The implementation has been horrible in my view, although it would be worse if it was done the same way they did in North American sports. But it's close. Before we had this, I thought that I would want it because it would correct a lot of issues, but I was wrong. The human element is part of the game and makes it interesting. Having a player score and everyone going crazy only to find out he's offside by an imperceptible amount isn't fun. It's just lame. I guess this is what we get now, and it's a shame because I think it makes things less enjoyable for the fans.

Does Ole even make it to Christmas at this point? I know the squad isn't great, but they still shouldn't look this dire.

Chelsea don't have the squad depth
Spurs appear to have hit the wall and are regressing
Arsenal are Arsenal
United are terrible
The race for those last two CL spots looks to be wide open this year, would love to see all of the above miss them for two newbies.

Welp. It looks as though all those years of making fun of West Ham has paid off.
Good win and well done.

Toothless performance.
Keep Mata, Young, Matic and Lindgard for league cup and Thursday night games.
Asides from the general uselessness of the performance what was telling for me also was the reaction to Nobles tackle on Wan-Bissaka when he could easily have broken his leg. They just stood there when it used to be of you had pulled a stunt like that you're have had Keane, Rio, Stam, Scholes, Paddy..... with their hand around your throat ready to rip it out.
Clueless, heartless, gutless. The first I can pardon. The latter two. No.

Speaking of getting sacked, you wonder how long Emery's leash is gonna be.

I can just feel it....we've been getting some VAR love, but the day will come when we shall be made to pay!

Why controversy? Clearly off.

I'll have to watch it again, but the commentators stated that pre-VAR that goal would have stood.
But he was offside by a mile in the buildup.

Chelsea really took it to us in the second half there, they could easily have gotten a draw today.
Take the points and move along, a win at Stamford Bridge is still a win.
But we're still bleeding goals against. They've got to tighten it up.

Not sure if I'm happy or disappointed in Arsenal today. Great to come back and win, but so much bad in that match.
Quite a mixed bag of emotions from that one.
I guess finding a way to win while waiting for more defenders to get healthy is the main thin.

All the emotions from a Villa fan in that game, can't believe first to be so close to 3 points at the Emirates and then give it up in 3 minutes there.
I'm not a great expert at soccer but please tell me how that wasn't a hand ball in the box at the 88th minute?
