If Conroy picked Iginla 2nd overall I would seriously question his ability to be a GM. That would be a serious reach.

Are children of stars historically better bets than other prospects? They’re already highly ranked based on their abilities, but are they more of a sure thing? I think of Hull and the Tkachuks as ones who lived up to or surpassed their projections, just wondering if there is a bloodline factor to consider, or if it’s even already baked into projections.

That puckpedia pick value tool is pretty cool.

After the Lindholm trade I was looking and found a few draft pick value models.

What if Tij ends up being the 2nd best (or even best) player taken in the draft when it's looked back on 10, 15, 20 years from now?

Look no further than his dad, who was taken 11th overall in his draft and ended up being the best player taken and it wasn't even close.

And these types of things happen in pretty much every single draft.

Playing around with the pick and salary value tool.

50% Markstrom retained for 2 years (3.0 AVV) is worth 29th pick in the first round.

So the 29th and 30th comes up around 11 points shy to move up to 10th. 11 points is roughly the value of the 31st pick.

Is the value for Markstrom more or less then a 31st pick, that is the question. The frame work to move Markstrom, 50% retained, and the Canucks pick looks to be on the right track.

Or the more likely scenario he becomes a middle six guy or busts

Well of course that's the more likely scenario.

You're not getting my point.

I was being facetious. I think he'd be a fine pick at 9/10/11. Agree there's options at 2 that are likely better.

But also who knows, you can look back to every draft and find guys who in a re-draft would go way higher... or way lower (or not at all).

Also 5% chance or not, I don't think the hockey gods have the Flames ever win a lottery, lol.

Tij Iginla has a really late birthday as well, -
August. There are going to be a few players around him who just missed the cut off for last years draft. Stuff like this has to be considered. I think Tij going to to continue to make huge progress the next two years

This. His development will be fun to watch. He has a good shot to make team Canada for the 2025 World Juniors and I could see him returning in 2026 potentially as captain. He’s a young player for this draft who is showing one of (if not the best) development curves of any player in his draft year.

Tij Iginla still has some hockey left to play.
The Kelowna Rockets forward has been added to Team Canada's roster for the World U18 World Championships.
The son of NHL legend Jarome Iginla was the final player named to the squad competing in the event beginning Thursday in Espoo and Vantaa, Finland.

Thre's not too many examples of stars' kids in the NHL. Doan, Nylander, Stastny, Foligno, Reinhart, Howe.

There are probably more examples of kids of journeymen players outdoing their dads. Domi, Debrusk, Gagner, Chychrun, Parise say.

But there are tons of NHLers' kids who didn't pan out/got a cup of coffee.

I really like the top 7 prospects listed. Would be happy with any of the below:

Cayden Lindstrom
Artyom Levshunov
Zayne Parekh
Tij Iginla
Berkly Catton

Levahunov and Parekh are really interesting prospects. If they are around at #9 that would be great. If it came down to Catton and Iginla - I would go with Iginla. I am still not convinced Catton will be a C on the NHL.

That's great but if you are drafting second overall and you want Tij you can trade back and get serious extra assets and still get him. Otherwise you take the BPA which won't be Tij Iginla at the draft on anybody's draft board.

It'd still be bad asset management. If by some chance they get #2 and are hellbent on Iginla, trade back and snag some extra assets.

Stuff like that has already been considered by those people evaluating him. It's part of the valuation process.

Your point is that no matter what they should pick Tij second overall because he could be the 2nd best player? Reaching massively for him would be a bad look. Move down if they will take him anywhere.
